Both. Sort of. There is a carwash in my town that is affectionately known as "the hot car wash." They employ young 20 something year old guys who are pretty muscular and are either shirtless or wearing a tank top. They hand wash all of the really dirty spots and then you go through the car wash. After you drive through there is a guy waiting to hand dry your car. And I guess to be fair they also have a girl working there now. But she keeps her shirt on! Inquiring minds want to know if this is a chain business? My car is very dirty and needs a good wash!!

I take mine to the full service place every few months (2-3 at most). I alternate between interior services, the detailed/crevice vacuum, the carpet steam cleaning and the upholstery steam cleaning.

I hand wash my car every week because I want to ensure that it will rain at least that often . I also wax my car myself, though i enjoy doing that far less than washing. I am sure that my neighbors think I am crazy with all the upkeep I do on my car but I drove a minivan for too many years that seemed to be a crumb and fingerprint catcher so when I got my new car three years ago I vowed that those days were behind. I love things clean and shiny.

car wash where they hand wash it. It's not exactly cheap but the auto wash places are hopeless at getting it clean and they don't do the inside. Also I've been told they can damage the car paint after a while.

I go to a place that hand washes my car and recycles water. We used to wash them ourselves, but there's so much wasted water. I feel better about going someplace where they recapture the water instead of wasting it.

Sometimes I hand wash it, sometimes I just go through the car wash. We use so much salt on the roads here that I go to the car wash at least once a month in the winter and ask for the undercarriage wash (high pressure warm water) to rinse away the salt. There's a reason why many people park their classic cars in dry garages during the winter around here. The salt will increase the rust. I run it through a car wash during the summer after a long road trip because I just cannot get all of the bugs off. I try to vacuum mine out at least once a month.

I haven't washed my own car in years. I either go to the car wash or have someone come to the office to wash it. the guy who comes to the office also details my car when it needs it.

We take ours to the car wash.
1. We live in a drought area, so it's better to go to a place that recycles the water.
2. Our gutters drain directly to the ocean, so we have to watch what run-off goes into them.
3. They do a better job at the car wash in less time. The vacuuming and windows are so much better when they're done at the carwash.

I fall mostly into the "neither" category. I never go to a car wash, nor do I hand wash my car very often. I usually do it once a year, in the spring to get the road salt from winter off the car and its undercarriage. I always buy a silver car because I find they show the dirt the least. The guy who owned our house before we did was a car dealer and left a huge barrel of car washing soap behind in the garage, so I use that to wash it. In spite of my laziness where washing the car is concerned, my 8 year old car, which has over 100,000 miles on it and has lived through several midwestern winters, looks great.

I hand wash my car (but never very often, I have to admit) although it doesn't stay dirty for long. We get rain fairly frequently in these parts and it'll wash any dirt I have right off! I don't mind hand washing. It isn't too difficult and I save a lot of money!

Hand wash in the warmer months and car wash in the colder. All the sand and gunk collects underneath in the winter and needs blasting. DH usually does the interior.

Honestly? Neither one. The only time I've actually taken water to my van is after driving on the interstate or PA Turnpike in winter, when the salt gets encrusted all over it. Otherwise never. We have enough rain that it gets washed that way, and in the winter I'd hate to wash it because it would just get dirty again. It goes to the dealer for regular check-ups and they always wash it inside and out (for free) as part of that checkup. eta to add: I do take it to the middle school once a year when the band does their car wash fundraiser. I forgot about that, because we missed it last year due to being out of town.

It's kinda funny because it was just some random car wash that I never really paid attention to until I started seeing people comment about it on Facebook. Someone would post that they were getting their car washed and every time there would be someone asking if they were at the Hot Car Wash. I thought it only had a reputation among women but one day I mentioned getting my car washed and SO immediatly says "you're gonna go to the hot car wash aren't you?" I apologize for the humongous quote but I can't figure out how to delete the original quote.
