I was looking into hand washing and removing the oxidation from my red car and then am looking to prevent it on my black car. I googled it and my mind was blown. This is serious business! The time and effort and cost were shocking. I had no idea!
After reading up on it and researching a bit I think I'm going to be a car wash convert and do it my self from now on. It's a lot of work but the cars looked amazing after and if they stay looking good I'm happy.
Do you hand wash or go to the car wash? If you are the DIY type do you have any favorite products or methods?

I have taken my car to the car wash one or two times a week for the past four years and it looks like it did the day I bought it. Since we've been in a drought I'm only washing it once. The car wash recycles the water so I don't feel so guilty.

Car wash. The dirt around here turns to powder resulting in a need to wash too frequently for me to have the time/patience to do it by hand. I figure a drive through the car wash on a more frequent basis is better than never getting around to it.

Hand wash while it's warm. In cooler weather, the car wash, but it's few and far between

Both. Sort of. There is a carwash in my town that is affectionately known as "the hot car wash." They employ young 20 something year old guys who are pretty muscular and are either shirtless or wearing a tank top. They hand wash all of the really dirty spots and then you go through the car wash. After you drive through there is a guy waiting to hand dry your car.
And I guess to be fair they also have a girl working there now. But she keeps her shirt on!

Hand wash at Sainsbury's. They do a fantastic job for a tenner.

Check out Croftgate products. My exdh has show cars and he swears by their products and that's what I use, too. I actually go to one of the car washes where you spray and wash your car yourself but I take all of my own stuff and hand wash my car there.

Depends. I prefer to take it to the full service wash where they clean the whole thing, inside and out, for $20. But if I don't want to spend that much, there's a $4 car wash where you drive it through the automatic wash yourself and then the use of their vacuums and shaded work area is free. So I wipe it down, clean the wheels, and do all the interior work myself. My dad was a fanatic about clean cars and washing/cleaning them was my job as a teen. I'm thinking about starting my 13 year old on that job now.

DH will go through the automatic car wash ..pay a ton and the car still comes out looking dirty and unwashed I get so mad.
If I wash the car I will go to the car wash and use the brush and machine sprayer thing. It comes out a littler better but still not as clean as a hand wash.

Car Wash. I don't have time to wash my car by hand. Going to the car wash means I can get my car washed on the way somewhere and it air dries during the drive. Win win.

Car wash for sure. I only go a few times a year...I don't even have time for that, I certainly don't have time to hand wash! Lol.

I go to a car wash. Hand washing uses too much water.

My hubby hand washes my car for me My DS is very tall so he usually now gets car washing duties when he's around, which isn't really that often due to work, because the process is easier for him.......so in between I use the hand wash service at Sainsburys!!

Car wash. We have hard water and I hate the spots it leaves even when I dry it.

We wash by hand. My SO has all the stuff (with help from me and Valentine's Day-hey don't say I'm not a romantic!). We spend a Saturday or Sunday morning washing both of our cars and drying them. They look good! It doesn't take long to do both cars, either. Sometimes we do it at night after work. Depends on how bad they look.

I hand wash it, or pay one of my kids to do it. I do take it to a local car wash and use their vacuum, though.

I can't remember the last time I washed my car. DSO and DS washed it for me after we'd been to the snow last month. Before that, who knows? I got out of the habit of washing my car when we were in a drought and you weren't allowed to do it unless you were using recycled water. Now I'm just lazy.

Always the car wash, usually the full service joint up the street.
I haven't hand washed a car since I was a teenager.

We live in a high rise building, so there's no place to wash it outside. We do have a place in the basement parking garage where we can rinse the salt and road grime off for free, but it's basically just a hose and a floor drain in the dark basement. Hard to really get it clean there. I drive it through the car washes at the gas station periodically too. And then, about twice a year, I'll either take it to one of those places where you can wash it yourself, or I'll go get it detailed professionally. I really like my car to be super clean inside and out, but with all the road salt around here for 6 months of the year, that's just not going to happen.

Me..rarely. My hubby does both! If we are going somewhere and it is dirty, he goes thru the car wash, but if he has the time he washes at home.

Unfortunately, I have to hand wash mine because it's a convertible. Sometimes, I would love to just run it through for a quick cleaning, but no can do.

Car wash. I don't have the time to wash it by hand, and don't want to use the water. I go to car washes that recycle their water. We had a great one near where we lived before. The one closest to our new house is just meh, but until I find a better one, it's better than nothing.
DH will detail the interiors himself if they need more than what the car wash does.
