There have been people from the community at the site of the shooting 24 hours a day since it happened. They relight the candles that people have left, they clean up used candles, they take the flowers that have died away... Random people who received tickets from this officer have come forward to say what a great man he was. He treated people fairly and took a moment to really ask them how they were when he interacted with them, not just citing them for infractions. He drove by a house about a week prior to his death and noticed that the play structure was missing a slide. So he went home to his own play structure that his girls no longer use and brought the slide over.
This is one of those things that is so senseless and tragic, but serves as a reminder to take a moment and be thankful for what's around you and that you never know the positive impact you could have on others.
Officer Scott Patrick
To all those Pea Refugee LEO families: Thank You.

Ugh this is so sad! This is my biggest fear when DH goes on duty! I hope everyone involved finds strength to get through this.

My dad is retired MN police officer, so he is at the funeral representing my hometown. Sad.

Shevy I am local too and it is all people are talking about at work today (we are just a couple miles from the shooting site). So sad for his family and fellow officers.

It has always been a dangerous profession, but it seems to get more dangerous as the days go by. I admire the bravery of LEO's everywhere and the strength of their families that each day, have to wonder if their loved one will make it home that day. Prayers for Officer Patricks family, friends and co-workers.

I had not heard his story - thank you for sharing it. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his community. I have many friends and family in law enforcement, and stories like this are a tragic reminder of just how dangerous even the most "routine" traffic stop can be.

Maybe it's because I depend on law enforcement for my job or because I have some friends who are officers, but it's just so sad. I don't remember the outpouring of respct and affection from the community in prior shootings/deaths. It's just so freaking sad.

So sad--his wife is so strong, his kids look just heart-broken. I feel so bad for them. Prayers sent for the entire community & his family.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I have a soft spot in my heart for LE families. My BIL was shot in the line of duty responding to a domestic several years ago. He survived but still carries one of the bullets. He is now a member of the Honor Guard and attends funerals of fallen officers around our state.
His family will be in my prayers. It sounds like he was a great guy.
