I thought this brand was exusive to Kroger stores and when I visited my DD in CO her store, King Soopers, was laid out exactly as my Kroger store. So I figured same company, different name in the west.

Well King Soopers must be too. I wonder why the name Kroger isn't used all over the country?

Well King Soopers must be too. I wonder why the name Kroger isn't used all over the country? Because most of the other names were acquisitions and they kept the original names for goodwill/recognition reasons.

Kroger is such an unappetizing name. Here is So Cal, we have Ralphs. Now Ralph's sounds yummy.

I've never heard of that brand. Or of most of the stores listed in this thread (except for Fred Meyer and Turkey Hill). I'm on the east coast.

I shop at Giant just outside of Philly. This company bought out Safeway who bought out a family group of stores named Genuardis.
