I'm a high school teacher and I grade my students' homework for completion about once every two weeks. I require that they keep it in some kind of notebook or folder, but I don't care what type as long as it's organized. We had our first notebook check today, and normally, the students just have their work in a spiral bound notebook or on looseleaf in a binder. Well, I got so giddy when one girl had hers in a composition notebook and had folded the pages in interesting ways so that they folded out and could be flipped up and down and she had added in some pages with washi. I gushed on and on about how "oh my gosh you made a smashbook out of your homework, how awesome!" and she had no idea what I was talking about. I'm pretty sure she thinks I'm crazy now, but I just loved it. Made me so happy!!! I wonder if I could get all the kids to set up their notebooks that way?! I might get more of them to actually do their homework!

Cool. Maybe bring in a supply of stickers and washi tape, maybe some markers, turn them loose, and see what happens!

What a nice surprise in a sea of routine homework assignments. I love creative kids!

Love it! And I love that you confused her with words like 'smashbook', haha. Maybe you could convert some students to scrapbookers?

We have all sorts of "maker spaces" in our media center that the kids can go to during their lunch/free periods and one will be for papercrafting. I can't wait!!
