Seriously, I want to smash it into a thousand tiny pieces!!!! No matter what I do, I cannot get the fucking thing to work the way I want it to. I have read the instructions inside the front panel, I have read the God-awful manual, and nothing works! I just want to set the damn thing to air condition at 74, day and night because we are always here! Hubs and I work from home, and we don't travel on the weekends. Why is this so fucking hard!?!? I have tried to use the Hold button to keep it set at 74, but the thermostat overrides that after 4 days and turns it back up to 78-80. Which is apparently where the previous owners had it set. I take it off the wall every 4 days, pop the batteries out for 20 minutes and reset the damn hold button to 74 again. It's crap and I hate it!!!!

Is yours the programmable version? Try going through the app and set the daily program. I bet that's what's happening is the program is kicking in. Mine seems to override my permanent hold and go to program, which is annoying.

Mine seems to override my permanent hold and go to program, which is annoying. It is programmable. I do not have an app, as it is 20 years old. It came with the house. I wish it had an app! That I'm sure I could work! I know the previously set program is kicking off my Hold, but I cannot get it to stop doing that. I have tried to reprogram it, but it never takes. I'm hot, I'm pregnant, and I'm seriously hormonal. It is NOT a good combination!

Ditch it and buy a new one. It's not worth your frustration level. They're fairly easy to install.

Have you called Honeywell? No. I don't think that would be a wise decision at this moment in time. I will probably say things I shouldn't to the poor people on the phone.

It may not make you feel better, but I hate mine as well. I cannot get it to work and the same exact thing happens.
So every night I lower the temp and every morning I raise it.
It is stupid.

link to the Wi-Fi version
it is less than $100 and you can change the temp from literally anywhere you have an Internet connection (anyplace your phone gets a signal). It is also very easy to install - we did it ourselves in less than 30 minutes.

Ditch it and get a Nest. That thing will read your mind.

We have a Honeywell (about 5 yrs old that replaced a 20 year old Honeywell). Are you making sure that you set the new temperature for each day of the week? That tripped me up in the beginning. But honestly, since it is 20 years old, I would just upgrade to a new model. They aren't very expensive, and are an easy installation.

You need to set each segment of each day to 74, and then just run program. Not sure what choices yours has, but on mine, there are 4 segments for weekdays, and 4 for weekends. It will take a few minutes, but if you program each segment to the same temp, it will just stay at that temp whenever you have the A/C on, and you won't have to worry about trying to use the hold button. If you use heat/furnace in the winter, switch it over to that and then re-program with your winter temp for each segment. It will remember your program for A/C and for furnace.

We have one here at work and we have the guy who comes in each season to set it then tape it shut so no one else in the office can change anything - I feel your pain!

We have a Honeywell and it works exactly like it should. Have you tried pressing SCHED and resetting that to get rid of the previous owners schedule?

I can't seem to get things like that to work either! So I let my husband do it. He is an engineer, so is good with all that kind of stuff. But you are not alone. When it comes to the gps on my cell phone, I feel exactly the same. But I do enjoy my phone for texting/calling (since there are no pay phones anywhere it seems), so I can't smash it. But there have been many times I have wanted to!

We have the wifi version also and I love it! Very simple and if I want to turn on the A/C or heat from work before I get home I can. I can also check to be sure the teenagers are not setting it to crazy expensive levels.

My studio is on its own thermostat and its Honeywell. I HATE IT. I will get it set right, and we are good then BAM. Out of nowhere it starts changing the temperature. I think I will change it when we get back from our trip. I didnt realize it could be a honeywell issue and not just a 'I dont know how to use it' issue.

Ditch it and buy a new one. It's not worth your frustration level. They're fairly easy to install. This is what we did. Start over and start fresh. Then you dont have to worry about something someone programmed in. I think ours was the same way, We couldnt get the program schedule to ever clear. So we got a new one and didnt set a schedule. it works for us.

Ditch it and get a new model. When we moved into this house it had a 14 yr old Honeywell programmable. I hated that thing from the very beginning. It was a bitch to schedule and the background lighting on it was dim. Ours was also programmed by the previous owners. We had to finally call a local electric repair company to try figure out how to reprogram it so it wouldn't go back to the old program. Even then, it would be glitchy and do some of the strangest things with the heating and air-conditioning. We had just started investigating getting a NEST wireless, when our air conditioner went out. So we replaced the air conditioner and furnace and the thermostat. Best.thing.we.have.done.all.year. Mercy I love that new thermostat. App controlled thermostats are the best thing since sliced bread. So just give up and replace it. Six years of ours giving us grief was so not worth it. I only wish I could have convinced my husband to have replaced it years ago.

Do you have the manual? Many of Honeywell manuals are online, that might help.

Take it from one pregnant woman to another - ditch it and buy an Ecobee. I think mine reads my moods and adjusts accordingly lol!
When are you due by the way? I'm in late November. I can't remember if we were pregnant at the same time my first go round too. Do you have a 3.5yo?

At 20 years old I wonder if it's jst somehow stuck and can't reprogram.
Ours is 15 and still works ( knock on wood ) but we put that one in and I wouldn't hesitate to put in a new one if I had $100.
Hope you figure it out soon and can get comfy

I am due on Jan 24, but I am predicting this little girl shows up shortly after Christmas in the 36th week. I have a history with pre-eclampsia and 36 weekers. And yes, we must have been pregnant around the same time last time, as I do have a 3.5 year old! He's my funny little sunshiney boy!

We have a Honeywell and it works exactly like it should. Have you tried pressing SCHED and resetting that to get rid of the previous owners schedule? We don't have a SCHED button on ours. Just a program, run, and hold on one column and day, time, and period on another column. I know that I am supposed to push the program button and then cycle through the days, times and periods and I have done that countless times but it never sticks. I am currently researching new thermostats.

We had a programmable one that came with this house when we bought it. I hated it with a passion. ugh. The next winter we had a furnace guy come out to check ours and while he was here I mentioned my hatred of that thermostat. He said "oh yeah, they can be tricky". lol. He replaced it with a nice old fashioned one that you turn up and down manually. We've had it ever since and have had no problems.

I have had a lot of thermostat problems since living here. I don't feel the need for a fancy thermostat with an app as that just seems silly to me. Last time I replaced it was about two years ago and I got the $10 model from home depot. Works perfect. I set the temp I want and it does that until I tell it otherwise. Easy peasy. Your sanity is worth more than $10, buy a new one.

I think I have the same model - you need to set all the days/times and then program the temperatures within those periods. I am not at home right now but if you want to peamail me, we could arrange a time to go over it step-by-step. LMK

Did you check YouTube?
Be careful with Nest....we got one as a gift. It didn't like our heat pump even though Nest said it was compatible. Middle of winter, our condenser was a block of ice. We ditched it.

We had a nice programmable one that got fried in a weird power thing. We replaced it with a Nest and have been very happy with it. Although we have it programmed, it is nice to be able to adjust it through our phones when we are away or even just upstairs; no running downstairs just to turn the temp up or down!
