I mean, specifically, what is it about their upbringing that they don't know they should leave formations like this alone? It's as bad as the idiots who pushed over the Goblin Valley State Park rock formation. Maybe we should bring back the pillory post for some proper public shaming. Maybe that would teach these lower forms of life. Update: Vandals destroy pedestal rock at Cape KiwandaI mean...how is it that people like this exist in this day and age? It was a seriously cool rock.

I can't understand how people think damaging things is fun.
I hope by having the video they can be prosecuted.

Why do people vandalize at all? Why do people litter? They don't give a shit about anyone or anything but themselves. I hope they catch these jerks.

Having recently hiked through Makoshika Park and enjoying the beauty of many such rock formations this video breaks my heart. I hope they're prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I sure hope someone recognizes them on this video and informs the police. And then they should be made to volunteer in a state park or national forest picking up litter, performing maintenance jobs, giving tours ..... for the next five years.

Normally, I hate drones, but in this case, I'm glad the drone caught the vandals in action. I hope all of the vandals get caught and are prosecuted.

I don't get it either. DH & I were traveling this weekend, & watched at least 5 cars dump garbage out their car window. I was shocked, I haven't seen that in a long time.
That rock formation is beautiful. The wedding picture is so striking!

Unfortunately, it looks like the fullest extent is a fine of less than $500 and probably probation. I didn't see jail time mentioned. At the same time, the park has had signs and fences up for many years. People continue to ignore them to get pictures. Why do they keep doing that?

This kind of stuff makes me so mad. My family loves road tripping to national parks. Such amazing beauty in this world. How people can be so selfish and thoughtless is beyond me. So upsetting!

Oh they know it is wrong. They just don't care and they think it is funny. They are part of an elite society. The ones who are too smart and funny to care about anyone else. Oh, yes. Sadly, there are too many instances to name. For example, the couple that carved their names into Pompey's Pillar in Montana.

Maybe they think this will lead to fame for them?
Uncaring assholes that haven't had to pay a price for their destruction or pranks would be my guess though.

I saw this on the news yesterday. I cannot fathom why anyone would do that. It just blows my mind that they would destroy something just for the fun of it. I also don't get littering or graffiti.

Every time I see articles like this, or the one where some idiots tagged a rock formation in a national park, or just the idiot in front of me today who flicked her cigarette butt out her car window, I die a little inside.

They know it's wrong, they just don't care. I think it's a combination of things: the way they're raised,a sense of entitlement, and a slap on the wrist punishment.
Hopefully with the video they'll be able to locate these pieces of crap and prosecute them fully...even if it is just a $500 fine.

Oh don't you know they did is as a prank,a dare or whatever. They're only young and youngsters will do some stupid things, we should all know that!
( I need a big sarcasm button )
When we get parents dismissing they're kids actions as childish pranks rather than punishing them in some way then these people know no better and turn out to be entitled jerks.

They knew it was wrong. They're just assholes who decided to get "revenge" on a rock formation because someone they know hurt themselves doing something involving the formation that they probably shouldn't have been doing in the first place.

Firstly it isn't "vandals" or "people"...it's clearly a group men who did this. I always hate when men do stupid shit like this that they use gender neutral pronouns. Secondly I think the wedding & yoga men and women are just as stupid. They are equally willing to clamber up a larger natural structure like this and risk damaging it for the sake of their own photo opportunity. If it wasn't for people climbing all over it then it probably wouldn't have been cracked/wobbly enough to destroy so easily. Just because one looks prettier doesn't make it non damaging.
Finally, men (especially young men + alcohol) seem to destroy things because it makes them feel good. Recently I came home fairly late at night, someone had left a microwave oven out front of the house next door with a sign that said "free, works perfectly" by the time I went out the next day it was reduced to a smashed up piece of metal and broken glass.

Because they are fucking assholes and perhaps their parents didn't teach them respect.
I hope people who know them see it and call them out for it.
My kids would wish the rock fell on them if they had done it.

Heartbreaking.
And I realize no living creatures were hurt or killed, but really, it's pretty heartbreaking to see such wanton destruction of nature's beauty, too.
