This is not far from me in Oregon. I'm so mad about it. Besides whatever legal penalties may apply, I hope some public shaming ensues if they get turned in.
Jerks.

Locally yesterday, it was a few teens taking photographs of themselves destroying the American flag outside of a business and it was all caught on video. The dumbass teens posted photos on social media, and an officer saw the address in one of the photos and they tied them together .
The most they can be charged with is vandalism or destruction of property--I'm all for public shaming on these types of dumbass people!

Those men destroyed it because they've never been held accountable in all their lives.
If every time they ruined or broke something, they had to pay for it, either in hard labor or financially through money that they had to earn through hard work, it would not be such an appealing past time to ruin objects not belonging to them.
Think about it the opposite way.
Do home owners go trash their own property? Do they spray paint their garages, or break off lower limbs of their trees for no reason at all?
Nope.
Because they are the ones who have to pay for the repairs to those items.
I think if Little Johnny, who drew on his school desk in fifth grade, had been sent home with a bill to replace the desk and x number of community service hours scrubbing other school desks, then he wouldn't be the type of person to topple natural rock formations in his twenties.
Stop shrugging our shoulders when kids do dumb stuff and teach them a life lesson about respecting others' property before they become adults who destroy others' property.

Why do people vandalize at all? Why do people litter? They don't give a shit about anyone or anything but themselves. I hope they catch these jerks. I agree. Yesterday a guy in front of me tossed his cigarette out the window. I wanted to leave a note on his truck or something. People who litter suck. These people from the OP are the worst kind ofpeople.

This really made me mad. These idiots claimed it wasn't safe. But why didn't they report it to the National Park so it could decide what needed to be done; if anything. There is no way the beauty of that rock will be seen ever. The last one made me really mad. Those two idiots were Boy Scout leaders and the Boy Scout motto is "leave no trace behind". So their trace has destroyed a beautiful rock formation that took thousands of years to create and will not ever be enjoyed again for generations to come.

One of the reports I read said that the park service said it is beyond a fenced off area, so those guys are just trying to justify it, but it was already blocked off to protect it and any hikers. Yoga woman also posted something about it and claimed there was no fencing at the time she took her picture, but the park service said it's been fenced off for many years. IMO, all the people posing on it also are in the wrong. Save

Stop shrugging our shoulders when kids do dumb stuff and teach them a life lesson about respecting others' property before they become adults who destroy others' property. The willful destruction of that rock formation is horrible, and it's particularly appalling that the fine they'll have to pay is so small. I also agree with whoever said the people in the other photos are almost as bad as destroying it; the people standing on it are also messing with it and shouldn't have been there. It doesn't matter that their photos are 'nicer' looking, it's still messing with a natural rock formation. Why can't people just *admire* natural things from afar, for gosh sakes? ^^^ And I totally agree with this entire post by LavenderLayoutLady, especially with what I bolded. We moved over the weekend, and the "professional" movers were three kids in their early 20s being supervised by an *actual* professional. As they were (badly) muscling our leather loveseat down the stairwell, they put a BIG gouge in the drywall... my boyfriend said he heard the guy supervising say, "that's okay... sometimes we clip the wall, don't worry about it, you're trying." Whaaaat?!?! seriously?!? Don't worry about damaging another person's property? That's apparently the attitude our society is cultivating nowadays.

Two years ago, my son was in 4th grade and poked a bunch of holes in the bus seat with a pencil. He had to go to the principals office and I received a bill for the new seat. I was glad that they sent the bill and you can bet you're booty that the $80 came from his allowance. He definitely learned a valuable lesson that day.

I've been to this area many times and where they are you aren't suppose to go. There is some fencing and there are signs but many people ignore them. Every year, a few people get killed from falling off the cliffs or getting washed away. I'm so glad they were caught. It's sad and they need to be charged a fine. It's vandalism!

I think, not 100 percent sure, but the fence isn't necessarily fenced off from the area. Meaning you don't have to jump over it to get to the other side. I think you can just walk around it.

I haven't been there, so I can't say, but I am sure the intent of the fence is evident. Walking around it would be as bad as climbing one

Entitlement and absolutely no respect for anyone or anything. Yes! This! It starts young, I've got a few 3 year olds in my class this year whose moms think their children are very special.

I looked at some pics on Google and I did found pics of a fence that has signs saying "Danger - do not go beyond this point". It looks easy to get over, but that doesn't mean you're supposed to! Save

Firstly it isn't "vandals" or "people"...it's clearly a group men who did this. I always hate when men do stupid shit like this that they use gender neutral pronouns. Secondly I think the wedding & yoga men and women are just as stupid. They are equally willing to clamber up a larger natural structure like this and risk damaging it for the sake of their own photo opportunity. If it wasn't for people climbing all over it then it probably wouldn't have been cracked/wobbly enough to destroy so easily. Just because one looks prettier doesn't make it non damaging. Finally, men (especially young men + alcohol) seem to destroy things because it makes them feel good. Recently I came home fairly late at night, someone had left a microwave oven out front of the house next door with a sign that said "free, works perfectly" by the time I went out the next day it was reduced to a smashed up piece of metal and broken glass. My thoughts exactly! SaveSaveSave
