I take the elevator everywhere it is available because of my RA. Yes even for one flight. I hope no one would judge me for it but it seems they will. Remember you can't tell someone's ability just by looming at them. My hips are deteriorating quickly and I will need two replacements but am trying to hold off as long as I can since they have a life expectancy and I am fairly young for the procedure. Please just hold the indignation a bit. You never know just by looking. I forget, until I visit the peas, how quick we are as people to judge one another. Frankly, I can't imagine putting as much thought into who uses the stairs and who uses the elevators as some of you.
But if keeping track of how people get around in the building helps you pass time, knock yourselves out.
For the record, stairs trigger an asthma attack for me EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Do you take the stairs or the elevator? I always take the stairs just for the little bit of exercise, unless I am carrying too much. Surprising how many of my young, healthy co-workers take the elevator. Ann I always take the stairs, but yes, you are right, I'm so surprised to see who takes the elevator on a regular basis. Seriously why do some of you have to be judgmental. I just don't get it. I hope your health never fails.

I have worked in the same building for 13 years, most of those on an upper floor and have used the elevators less than 10 times in that entire time frame.

I work from home but I do have to go to my corporate office occasionally. It is on the second floor and I try to take the stairs as much as I can, but if I have a lot of stuff in my hands then I will take the elevator.
If someone were keeping track of my stair vs elevator usage I would assume they needed more work assigned to them because that is sooooo low on my list of priorities when I'm in the office.

My last job was in a building that was 4 stories. We occupied the whole building. The only time I didn't take the stairs when I was with a group of people. It's not much in the way of exercise, but it's something.

I always take the stairs. I work in an old building and am afraid to get stuck in the elevator. If I have something heavy to carry upstairs I will put it in the elevator and walk up the stairs and retrieve it from the elevator. I know, paranoid but our elevator has been stuck before and I need the exercise so I just got into that habit.

I mentioned to someone as we were leaving one night that our elevator sometimes reminds me of the elevator in The Silence of the Lambs. A few days later she mentioned she looked up at our elevator ceiling and now thinks of that too!

I hope your health never fails. These are people I work with day in and day out, who I know for a fact go to the gym everyday, run everyday, play volleyball, etc., etc. If they were strangers, or I didn't know their ins and outs, yes, I would give them the benefit of the doubt. So, why don't you try that as well?

Our building is 4 floors total. If I'm going from 1 to 3 (top floor) most times I'll walk the stairs - unless I'm just not feeling that great.
If I'm going from the basement to 3, usually take the elevator.

OMG I had not even thought of that until now but that is exactly what our elevator is like.

I used to work in an office building where the staircase doors were locked from the outside so no one could walk up the stairs. A couple times a co-worker would get the idea to do so (we were on the 8th floor) and I would just happen to be in the hallway and hear a knock coming from the stairway door, both times they had been in there awhile. lol

If you're wearing heals or carrying a ton of stuff I don't mind you taking the elevator up to the 2nd floor, but I do get annoyed if the elevator stops on 2 on the way down. That rarely happens so I think they know.

I work in 2 connected schools. My schedule has me going back and forth 4 times each day.Last year I wore my pedometer and put on over a mile each day which includes 4 sets of stairs. The only thing I don't like is I love heels and all that walking is killer on my feet. This year I'm going to get a pair of trainers to put on for the sprints (I only have 3 minutes to get from one place to the other.) and carry my shoes.

Seems the older one gets the more likely one is to use stairs for exercise!!

I take the stairs when I'm walking around the building at work because I really need the exercise. It feels good after being lazy at home while out of work the last few months.

While I work on the second floor, we don't have an elevator so it is stairs only.

My building has the scariest elevator! It was built in the 1930's and they can never get parts for it when it breaks down (which it often does with people in it!). I rode in it once and when you first step in, it is beautiful and Art Deco. When it moves, it is like a ride at Disneyland (think Tower of Terror).
I take the stairs.

I work on the second floor and take the stairs unless I am carrying a bunch of stuff or if I'm not wearing sensible shoes (hate those stairs in flip flop type sandals!).

Our office is on the 2nd floor and I take the stairs. I am actually embarrassed to use the elevator. I am a little on the chubby side and definitely need to exercise.
I know people who take the elevator because of health issues, but there are a few that are just plain lazy (self professed).

I obviously need sleep, because this keeps running through my head whenever i see this thread title:
My name is Ellie.
I work on the 2nd floor.
I work upstairs from you.
Yes, I think you've seen me before.
(to the tune of Suzanne Vega's "Luka," of course).
Just thought I'd share.
