We are heading to the San Francisco area for a vacation in early July. We will be staying in SF itself (renting a house) but will tour Napa, etc (where I hear it is generally warmer).
I see that the weather is generally in the 60s at this time of year. What about rain? I ordered some packable rain jackets for my dd's and I, and am wondering if we'll need this kind of thing.
Otherwise, I'm planning on wearing crop pants, yoga pants, and I will carry a sweater/hoodie wherever we go. And comfortable shoes! TIA.

It probably won't rain much if at all. As for the weather it can get chilly, so bring light jackets. You should be fine with shorts/capris and a light jacket. Napa will be warm though.

Dress in layers! It can be cold and foggy in one part of the city and warm and sunny just a few blocks away...

We will be in SF in mid August & just today I bought dd (12) a new lightweight rain jacket, now all 4 of us have new jackets ready for our trip. It's been a while since dh & I were there (ok, in all honesty it's 20 years since we were there on our honeymoon!) but we're coming ready for all possible weathers with plenty of layers. Very excited!

No clothing advice, but I wanted to say that I hope you have a fantastic trip. DH and I went to San Francisco and Napa in May. It was amazing! I loved every minute of it.

Layers. SF will be cold and foggy most likely. You'll want pants and a lightweight jacket. Regular summer clothes for Napa. My sister wouldn't believe me when I told her to bring warm clothes when she visited us on July 4 a few years ago. She's now the proud owner of a ridiculously overpriced San Francisco fleece jacket. Definitely save some money and bring your own

I wish I could remember how many 4th of July parties I was invited to that were cancelled because of the weather. Definitely plan on layers. It can be foggy and cold in the city in July and August.

I went to San Francisco in mid-August. No rain, but it was even colder than I'd been warned. I wore my one pair of loooong pants and a jacket the whole time, and insisted we stop and buy KNEE SOCKS to wear with my sandals. (Fashion be damned.) All the local women wore boots or closed toe shoes - and much different clothing than the tourists.
When you cross the bay, it's a completely different world.

I'm headed to San Francisco in September for my 50th birthday for 5 days. Going all by myself! I love to travel alone. I am the pea that went to NYC by myself in May

The chances of rain in July or August are sort of slim to none. But yes, in the city or along the coast, it can get very cold for summer. The rest of the Bay Area will usually be warm to hot (cool/foggy in the AMs except for the hottest days).

Saw most of the touristy stuff, went to 3 shows: Book of Morman, Kinky Boots and Hedwig and the angry inch. Ate and shopped. Loved every minute

I totally envy your ability to travel alone. I don't have the self confidence for that.

Cool to cold in San Francisco, probably HOT in Napa and I hope I don't ruin your vacation but I am praying nightly for rain.

I went to London by myself. My friends and family don't always want to go the same places as me, or do the same things. I love museums and old cemeteries and just sitting in coffee shops and acting like a local. I don't always need to do every "touristy" thing a city has to offer. I think I'll go to Paris and Amsterdam by myself, too...

so not only does the weather change depending on neighborhood, it changes based on time of day. western sf...(where I live.) I am seeing sun for the first time in 5 days. total ground hugging fog...55-60 degrees with a wind. eastern side of sf...sunny and 65-70. come 3-4 pm the wind starts stronger...and esp downtown, and other wind tunnel areas...the wind gets up to 15-25 mph..and the fog rolls east and it can get very very cold.
so bring long pants and shoes and light jackets. rain jackets are not needed. it will not rain til oct. . napa can be 75-95. dress for very warm weather...not too humid. we run around with a hoody or fleece jacket all year long. capri pants are for tourists along with shorts... you might throw in a scarf. I never wear shorts. my kids wear them with their hoodies.

Rain is unlikely. Fog is a definite possibility. Bring a sweatshirt and some jeans for SF, but plan on warm/hot weather in Napa.
