DH & I went years ago when we lived in Worcester (Whista, for the locals) but haven't been back since. Now that he is home we are thinking we might go out for the day as it's about an hour from us. We won't go on the weekend as I've heard the crowds are insane, but is there a better day to go? And what should we do when we get there? Is it possible to get through everything in a couple of hours? Thanks for any info you can share

I'll be watching for the answers to your questions, because I have the same ones. I've wanted to go for a few years and am not looking forward to the crowds.

I went two years ago on a Saturday and while the crowds were large, I didn't find them overwhelming. There is a lot to see though. Between the rides and exhibits, I would plan to spend a good chunk of the day there. One thing that's different about the Big E that I haven't seen at other fairs is each NE state has it's own building with food and unique things. I'm sure you could try and see it all in a few hours but I don't know how enjoyable that would be.

We always go on a Saturday and while it's crowded, we do OK. We get there early, grab a schedule, pick the things that are most important to us to see and plan our day accordingly. The New England buildings are favorites of mine, so I dilly dally down there most times That Maple Cream in VT gets me every time!! No matter when you go, just take your time, relax and plan to spend a good chunk of time there. It's worth it. And have a cream puff...LOL!

If you go on Sept 26, you can see ZZ Top With the Big E, it's not a matter of "getting through everything." It's just a long lazy day. The midway is okay, but if you really want the amusement park experience you should go to Six Flags instead. The Big E is more about visiting the State houses, 4-H sheep judging, and watching the parade featuring your high school marching band followed by the Budweiser Clydesdales. You can watch a cooking demonstration and a leather working demonstration and a Super Chamois demonstration, and then go find some butter butter butter butter butter butter butter butter corn. And then you go see ZZ Top. Bring a tote bag so you can buy some maple sugar candy and some jams at the Vermont house to bring home with you.

I love The Big E! My DD and I have gone the last two years. After the first time I planned one of my trips out here so that we could go again. I think a couple hours would be rushing it. I'd plan at least the whole afternoon. If you go you have to have some Smokey Shrimp and Corn Chowder in the Rhode Island building! Yummy!!

I LOVE The Big E! I go every year. I live right outside of Worcester. Saturday is always super busy. I've gone on a Sunday before and it hasn't been that bad. If you can go during a weekday, that would be best because there are still lots of people, but it's not crowded...if that makes sense. I can't even tell you the food I love because I will eat it all. It's all soooo good. I'm usually there all day from opening until about 7pm. There is just so much to see. Just take your time, don't rush, and enjoy.
