DD is 11 and in 6th grade. She has never enjoyed reading and getting her to read for X minutes per day in elementary school per her teachers' requirements was always a battle.
Her English/Language Arts teacher this year recommended a book in class that she borrowed from the school library that she has really enjoyed - Forget Me by K.A. Harrington. I see that this author has some other books - she also writes under the name Kim Harrington - that I'm going to look into.
Was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions in this genre for a girl this age? She is a little on the sensitive side so I'm looking for something not too disturbing/gory.
TIA!

When I was her age I was into RL Stine Fear Street books and Christopher Pike books. I actually still read their books and trying to finish off my collection of Fear Street ones. Stine has been releasing some new Feat Street ones recently and one I really enjoyed was Party Games.

My DD just started reading Seraphina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty. It's set at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, and we're hoping to visit there soon.
Here's a trailer for the book, which is what got DD's attention.

My dd like dystopian books at your dd's age. I read them too and we really liked The Giver and Unwind. We got the book titles from a pea who was a teacher (maybe 6th?) and she had a blog where she'd review books. I wish I still had the computer with that bookmark because it was a great resource.

The Fear Street Books by RL Stein, or really any book by him will do. Not part of the Fear Street collection were The Babysitter series, I think he wrote at least 4 of them. The first couple are the best. Oh, and The Cheerleader series are pretty good too. I think they are part of the Fear Street collection.
The Lifeguard by Richie Tankersly Cusick is still a favorite of mine (The Mall and Trick or Treat were pretty good)
Christopher Pike also had some good ones.
This was my absolute favorite genre of books growing up. I had every single Fear Street book the man published. Such fun creepy stories.

Both my kids liked the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson (it's written for kids/teens). It's more Sci-Fi, but might interest her.

Thank you so much! This gives us a good list to take to the library. I didn't realize that R.L. Stine had another series - she LOVED the Goosebumps books a few years ago and even had a Goosebumps themed birthday party when she was 8 or 9.

I just picked up RL Stine's Fear Street Saga: The Betrayal, The Secret, The Burning. It's the story behind why Fear Street became cursed starting with the Fier family in the 1600s. Totally taking me back to my childhood. www.simonandschuster.com/books/Betrayal/R-L-Stine/Fear-Street-Saga/9781481450416

I actually kept them when I donated the vast majority of my library to a local school.

Yeah the Goosebumps series was more kiddy-ish and the Fear Street series is more preteen ish. Check Thriftbooks dot com (not affiliated with this site just give them all my money often lol) for the Fearstreet books. Cheap and free shipping on anything over $10.00.

I know I had everyone that had been written up to that point. But I read so much I had to make room. Do you buy them through Alibris?

I would agree with Christopher Pikes, I've never read rl Stine.
The first Pikes I read was the Final Friends trilogy. They are only 150-200 pages.

They decent to buy from? Been buying from them for years. Great place for hard to find books/out of print. Shipping isn't usually fast is the only drawback. It's a site that bookstores from all over list on, kinda like a bookstore Etsy.

My DD would recommend the Maximum Ride series mentioned above. I was going to say this too. My daughter isn't a big reader, but she LOVED this series, and has read it a couple times. I know they're not psychological/thriller, but if she hasn't read them, she might want to try Harry Potter. Can't go wrong with those!
