For me, it's a job. For others, it's a career.

I have a career that I enjoy and am well-compensated for my work. There are times though, where I long for a job without hours of take-home work. I never really feel like I am off the clock.

I have a career with only 2 1/2 years until I can retire. I will only be 47 so I can then find another career!

I never really thought about it, I would have to say "a job".

I have a job that pays good for the area that I am in. I used to work in real estate (the "career") but I burned out and wanted something different. That "career" did not make me happy or content, but this job has its perks and I am now content enough.

I've had the same job at the same place for 37 years. Gee, I'm old.

A job. Strictly to help out with finances, because the hours and pay are good and I can fit it round family commitments. Plus I can wear a tracksuit and listen to my audiobooks while i work, and my workmates are awesome. Love it.

I have a career, but family still takes priority. Work life balance is valued by my employer. For example, the CEO talks about scheduling his days so he can watch his son play soccer. We are consistently recognized by Working Mother Magazine as a great company for working moms.

If the definition of a career is that I take it home with me, then I have a career. If the definition of career is wanting to move up the corporate ladder, then I have a job because I have NO desire to move out of teaching into management, especially under my current administration.
I love what I do and consider it a calling. On the other hand, if I won the lottery, I would never set foot in a classroom again--at least at the front of the classroom, that is. I could be a permanent student, just for fun.

I always thought I had a job and thought a career was something a specific education was used for. But I've just learned is has to do with how much work you take home. In that case, I have a career. But really it's just a job with a phone that goes off all the time.

I have a job that I only take home with me when I have "homework" which consists of putting together LEGO sets. I also have a career on the side quilting and crocheting and soon selling fabric online.

I have a job......Due to the salary structure and benefits from leaving a "job" and turning it into a "career"...I have chosen to stay in my "job"...I would lose too much to have a "career".. I am happy with my choice...

I have a career that can be all consuming at times. There are days when I wish I had a job that I could leave there and not take home.

Same as the OP. And if I didn't have to have one, I wouldn't have a job either. Just not for me. I have a really hard time balancing everything and would be a better mother/wife if I didn't have to work. But we need my paycheck and more importantly my health insurance so I keep trying to figure it all out. DD is 14 and I still don't have much of a handle on things. It would probably help if I enjoyed my job but I don't.

I would characterize my last job as a career, then we moved. And although I am still doing essentially the same type of work (legal assistant), I consider it just a job. I still (even prior to moving) turn off work mode at 4:30.

I had a career and I worked it 24/7 sometimes whether I was at work or at home. There was always some emergency that necessitated a late night or early morning or weekend phone call. Now I have a job and when the car starts at night, I'm done!

I have never heard of a career/job being defined as how much work one takes home.
I've certainly had a career that required advanced degrees, continuing ed, certification, and so on, but I never took work home with me.
Right now, I have a job and I take work home with me.
So I don't think that's a useful definition.

I have a job. I sub teach (which I **LOVE**).
DH has a career. This is by design and with the age of our children (12 & 9) works well for us.

But really it's just a job with a phone that goes off all the time. I really hadn't thought of it. I suppose if a career is defined as taking work home with you then I most definitely have a career as my work line forwards to my cell phone 24/7. I manage the travel of our reps who are out and about so they can have issues at any time and I need to be available.

Career. And I love it. Mostly. Generally. At least some of the time. Would love it more if it didn't take over my life, take all my time and energy and require me to travel several weeks a month. Oh, and be around people so much. But otherwise - yeah - love it.

Job. I was on a career path in the past but health problems and an autistic child derailed it. I'm happy with the way things have turned out though.

Definitely a job. My whole working life I've had nothing but jobs. But that's ok with me. I really enjoy my job now. And I don't think I could stick with one field forever. I've really enjoyed learning new things and skills.

I had a career until the last year or so. Now it's just a job I am sticking with until I can retire, hopefully in 3 years.
It's the same position and same company, except we were taken over by a much larger company. They are soulless. They preach work/life balance, but if you don't drink the Kool-Aid and work endless hours, you are penalized.
I can barely drag myself in the door some days. I keep reminding myself we have wonderful insurance and I have a very good salary.
