When my 7 yr old asked to be Spock for Halloween I didn't think twice about it. Now, as I try to find her a cheap costume on line, they're all labelled as boys costumes. Why do I think of Star Trek as uni-sex. Maybe there is a girls Spock outfit?

Why would there be a girls Spock costume? Spock is Spock.
Of course she can wear the costume. Put it on a boy, it's a boy's costume. Put it on a girl, it's a girl's costume. Boom done.

Oh gosh yes! I hated all the fru fru stuff when I was little and I always dressed in boy costumes. My favorite costume was when I dressed up as Popeye the Sailor man! My mom made it for me!

A costume is a costume. She should wear what she wants. I love the photo MizIndependent posted. It's an awesome Spock costume.

I think you might be overthinking it, it's a costume what does it matter how they're labelled?

The whole point of a costume is to assume the character of someone she is not.
Yes, of course she can wear the Spock costume!

It's only a "boys' costume" because Spock was a man. But who says a girl can't dress in that costume? I mean, that's what costumes are for, to let us dress up as anything we want. Remember Mary Martin? She's pretty well-known for playing Peter Pan on stage. #/media/File:PeterPanCD.jpg)

This is one arena that benefits girls. We can always dress in "male" costumes. Boys don't have it as easy. I love that Spock is who she wants to be.

Of course a girl can wear a boy's costume - and a boy can wear a girl's! That said, I will go out on a limb and say that I hate the girlified boys costumes made by adding a skirt or tutu to anything else, like Darth Vader, Spiderman, etc.

Of course she can! It's Halloween---you can be anyone or anything you want! That's the beauty of it. She can just wear a "boys" one. Just like a boy can choose a costume from the "girl" styles. Save

I had a little girl in my class a few years ago who wanted to come to school on Halloween as Batman. All the other girls were dressing as various princesses and she thought she would be laughed at. I told her to wear her costume and I'd wear a superhero costume, too. Imagine her surprise when I greeted her on Halloween as IRON MAN. She was so happy! The other kids thought it was very cool!...even all the princesses. Be Spock and be proud!!!

Yes from the mother of a DD who, over the years, has been a red Power Ranger, Jack Sparrow and Waldo.

Yes from the mother of a DD who, over the years, has been a red Power Ranger, Jack Sparrow and Waldo. I had a kid who wore a red power ranger costume everywhere we went for about two years. I would say that you are welcome to ignore the 'boy' label and the 'girl' label and allow your daughter to express herself however she so chooses. Those labels were stuck on there by an industry that wants to pigeon-hole children into a category for no other reason than that is what their market company said to do. It is no different than 'boy' toys and 'girl' toys...and most of us ignore that with impunity. For the longest time, the boy's favorite toy was the plastic kitchen set. It lived proudly in our kitchen so they could play pretend when ever they wanted-without a single girl in the house (other than my of course) to tell them they weren't supposed to play with it because it was for girls. And both of those boys have grown up to big, strong, manly men who do manly things.

As a diehard, 50 year ST fan, I would think of that as a female Vulcan Starfleet officer. And there were those in the shows and movies! Yes, I am a proud geek. I think that outfit is really fun!

Damn right she can
Boy costumes just mean that there aren't curves.

Well, really, if she were looking for a "girl" star trek costume, especially for an Original Series character, they'd probably have it packaged with a mini skirt. (HOW IS THAT PRACTICAL FOR SPACE EXPLORATION?) So I'd buy the boy costume anyhow to get pants.
Personally, I'd just assume that the MAIN reason for denominating something like that as boy or girl is just that they are sized a little different, aren't they? I mean for very little kids they might be all the same, like baby onesies, but at some point, doesn't the sizing start to diverge? (I don't know, I don't buy kids' clothes, I just used to work in department store clothing section and I thought they got different at about 6X and up.)

Is this a serious question? do you really not think she can wear a costume because it's labeled boy costume?? It's 2016, she can do, and be whatever she wants!

Why do I think of Star Trek as uni-sex. Maybe there is a girls Spock outfit? Paige. There are female Vulcans (Spock's race) but "she" wouldn't be SPOCK. Why does it surprise you that a costume of a male comes in boy's labeling? Yes, your daughter can wear a boy's costume... why is it even a question? Are you afraid she will find or grow a peni$ while wearing it? A costume is about pretending to be someone else for a short time. Spock was male. Doesn't matter what the costume manufacturers label the costume for. If she wants to be Spock buy her a costume for Spock... not a girlie spock knock off.

why not?
My youngest has been Thomas the Tank Engine, Luke from Star Wars, Anakin from Star Wars, Darth Vader...she wears what she wants to wear. I HATE that toys/clothes/costumes/interests are divided by gender by our society

One of our preschoolers came to dressed as Darth Vadar...and she was a girl. Kids loved it. She was the tallest in the class so it was an impressive costume!

It's basically pants and shirt, so I don't see the issue. If you're worried about the 'labeling' that wearing a *boy* costume might cause, I'd suggest you are waaaay overthinking this.

She can do whatever she wants. My DD was a pirate one year. When I showed her the "girl" pirate costume she said: "Pirates don't wear dresses!" She just wanted to be a plain ole pirate so she got the "boy" costume. Totally rocked it and was in character all night. Freakin adorable!
