The best thing I ever read about finding clothing to suit you is a book called "I don't have a thing to wear". It is the only thing I've ever read that explains the importance of knowing whether you are long waisted or short waisted. That helps you know the length of sweaters or jackets, whether belts work on you, heel height. Everything. The book covers other stuff but that information alone made it worth buying.
I did also read another book on style a couple of years ago and I can't remember the author but she said that as women get into their 50's (me) and our neck starts to go it is better to have large statement necklaces. That actually distracts the eye from looking at the wrinkles in your neck.
Anyway, that is why I'm into buying heavier necklaces. I don't own that many but I consider them investments and use them with more different pieces of clothing. I like to find handcrafted ones at places where several artists sell things on commission.

I'm learning the difference between buying something that will work and something I love. This season I found several pieces that I really love and I want to wear them all the time. Other things that are just functional end up staying in the closet. I'm hoping to be more judicious in the future.

annabella - I'm mesmerized by your wardrobe organization! joblackford - I bet you get so many compliments because people like color but are afraid to wear it themselves. Your clothing sounds great to me.

I second joBlackford about dresses! I wear dresses every day because it's easy...one piece, over my head and people think you really tried, except to me it's almost as good as going to work in a nightgown. 😉 I'd like to add some more separates for flexibility, the bulk of my closet is dresses, and I'm able to wear all but some of the most summery year-round with a cardigan. My trouble is finding jewel neck cardigans that aren't too long. If they are long they catch on my big butt. A berry cashmere one sounds terrific. My problem is I never met a red sweater I didn't like!

And I third Jo. DH and I just got back from a convention in San Diego and one of our outings was the zoo. I threw on a Gap gray and black thin-stripe tee shirt dress with black Birkenstocks and a chunky silver necklace and you'd think from the comments I got that I went to a lot of effort.

If you like berry, my favorite wardrobe item is probably my berry wool peacoat. For years I wanted a red one. I finally ordered it. When it arrived it was berry and I loved it so much more.

jenjie, is that a superhero eating at the table behind you? Yes! Yes it is! My hero Captain America! I don't look happy in the photo because my kids were refusing to take a picture for me. Then ds did it on the sly and refused to take a better one. I posted here at the time and think I got as many comments about the coat as I did about Cap! 😂

Kids can be such twerps about taking and being in photos. That's funny. I just noticed your Captain America tee shirt in your avatar. That pink coat is amazing. It makes me wish I could wear pink.

I think hijacks are one of the most entertaining features here.
