We are just back from a trip to Scotland and Ireland. (It was absolutely fabulous, by the way!) Edinburgh city signs used a really cool font. I would like to find that font for my Silhouette so I can use it when scrapbooking my trip Here is a link to the city's web page so you can see the font: Edinburgh City web pageAnd while we're on the subject, what free font sites do you use? I worry about downloading something sinister unless I am sure of the source. Thanks so much!

I have a ton of fonts and get them from dafont.com. I've never picked up anything nasty from there. They have a section under "Gothic" of Celtic fonts. There are a few there that are similar. If I'm not mistaken, the use of a "v" for "u" is a Roman thing, though. Dafont also has a message board and maybe you could post this question there?

I download a lot from Dafont and have never had any issues. The other places I recommend are Creative Market (they have 6 free goods each week and there's almost always a font included) and also Free Design Resources - again they have a lot of free fonts.

I've also had good luck with fontsquirrel.com and abstractfonts.com. HTH!

The best places to start are indeed the big free font websites like dafont. I have never had an infected file from them. Just stay with the big names in the industry and you'll be fine. If you're a font junkie, you can branch out to more specialised design websites where you'll find free (for personal use mostly) and paid for fonts (like Hyper For Type). Even big design sites like Behance offer the possibility to look up free fonts. However, I would not recommend these sites if you're sticking to looking for more thematic and less trendy fonts. A very quick under 1 minute search on Dafont already brings up some celtic-inspired fonts: Celtic Garamond 2nd Irish UncialfabetaBut there are a bunch more here to look into! (Fontennium is a reliable font source but you can always unzip the file and perform a virus scan on the unzipped folder before installing the font file in your font folder)
