What a horrible thing to discover. I feel very bad for them. But, I understand them staying together too.

I can't imagine. I have no idea what I'd do. I would definitely try to keep it out of the press though.

I can't help but wonder if the whole thing was a set up. I hope it was! What are the odds that someone would marry their half sibling and find out about it on the radio? I know stranger things have happened, but it just seems suspicious. At the very least, I would want a DNA test to confirm the mother's story.

Why should they look at each other differently? They are husband and wife and there is nothing in them that says brother/sister.

If I were them, I'd go through genetic testing, one to check DNA to see if they really are related and one to be able to mitigate ant affects the genetic might have on their child or future children/grandchildren.

Other than that, I say they are no more brother and sister than they were two weeks ago.

Wow. I hope they (and their daughter) can continue to live normally, and that the press leaves them alone.

I wouldn't be surprised if more people didn't unknowingly date or conceive children with blood relatives that they don't know are relatives. What with sperm and egg donation, pregnancy resulting from one night stands where the paternity is uncertain, closed adoption, etc.... It just seems like it could happen.

Oh my god...that is just awful. I cannot imagine! But to me that's something that once you KNOW, you can't UNKNOW. I don't think I could stay together. I'd be too grossed out to ever kiss him again!

I don't think it would change Highfill about my husband, but I would probably take steps to make sure I had no more children. The child they already have needs a mother and a father in it's life.

I agree.  It's not like they were raised together, so it doesn't have to change their emotional relationship.

However, after getting tested to be sure, it should definitely change their physical relationship.

I can't say I'd be happy about it, but to me that would not change my emotional connection. They weren't raised together so there really isn't an "ick" factor to me. It's purely genetic. And I'm sure it happens more often than anyone would guess.

I had a case like this in child support. They were half siblings and had grown up together in the same neighborhood; however, neither of their respective mothers knew that the couple could have been siblings. The only reason they discovered this was that she opened a case and the DNA tests results were like: Ok, there's a 99.99% probability that x is the father of child A, and there was an addendum by the MD that said, by the way, person x and person y are half-siblings. The child was SEVERELY disabled.
