I have been watching some videos in preparation for making a couple of gate-fold albums as count down to christmas albums. I noticed (why have i not noticed this before) that a couple of the ladies said they recommend 65 weight paper as it doesn't crack. I know the AC paper I was planning to use is more than that. How much difference does it make? Thanks

I'm all for trying it and seeing if it works with the weight I have/want.
The heavier the weight (thicker) paper the sturdier the paper becomes. But the thinner (less weight paper) is easier to crease and easier to crumple.
With the gatefold albums you are adhering papers to the base, correct? Maybe they used a thinner piece to keep the overall bulk down.

thanks I wasn't sure about it. Have you tried textured or would you recommend smooth?

Just do a score line before folding -- that eliminates the cracking. I am a total paper hound and I simply don't pay attention to the weight of the paper/cardstock I use -- I use what I like and what I want. You can test a fold on scrap first -- but there are techniques to use with any paper to help in fold. Score the line first; slightly wet it; make sure you fold on the grain
