Has anyone done a scrapbooking cruise? Where did you go? It sounds interesting. How did you like it?

When I go on a cruise, I want to enjoy the ports of call and take advantage of all the amenities on the ship. When I go on a scrapbooking retreat, I want to spend long hours being super productive while spending time with my friends. For me, the two wouldn't mesh. I would feel I was shortchanging one or the other.

I took a scrapbooking cruise about 6 years ago. It was setup as having crop space 24 hours a day but no formal classes. I utilize the cropping space one time for a few hours. I was more interested in the things the ship offered for entertainment and the ports of call. If I took another scrapbook cruise I would want one that had scheduled classes offered.

No and in all honesty, I'd rather go on a cruise to make memories to document. Not waste my time on the cruise scrapbooking.

The current crop of scrapbooking cruises is organized in such a way that the class offerings occur on the "at sea" days. Cropping is always available but cruisers can still take advantage of the port activities without missing out on features they paid extra for.
That being said, I don't want to haul all my stuff on a plane and a ship. That's just too much work. The $300 crafter cost is a little steep in my opinion. It's essentially $300 for four classes.

It sounds fun, but I can't imagine taking supplies along.
I'd rather take a week at a resort with scrapbooking! I keep thinking it would be fun to organize when I am retired. I think a winter view of Lake Superior would be perfect.

While I have never taken a scrapbooking cruise, I did take two Carol Duvall Crafting Cruises a while back and thoroughly enjoyed them. As a previous poster described, the classes and activities were set up on the days that we were at sea and in the evenings after we left port. I've been on non-crafting cruises and always went stir crazy on the sea days, so it was nice to have classes to fill that time. It was also nice because they had all the supplies we needed so we didn't have to bring anything. They did various papercrafts including scrapbooking. Tricia Morris from Club Scrap had a special themed scrapbook pages that we made were made in class with room to add the photos when got home plus gave us alot of extra product to make our own pages. Tim Holtz taught a sea themed canvas project with room for a picture. The instructors sold the extra supplies and tools in a tag sale at the end. Plus we received tons of product from the sponsors. There was so much I ended up shipping them home.

I've never taken a SB cruise however I do take SB supplies and my selphy when I cruise. DH and I don't drink and thus in the evenings we enjoy sitting on the balcony and he reads or watches a movie and I usually SB the days events.

I have and would never do it again. The cruise line wasn't really set up for us. We had the disco during the day (bottom of ship, no light). We had to pack everything up every evening. You missed all the fun on the ship. I'd rather go on retreats and cruise for vacation.

If I go on a cruise, not only do I want to relax and visit the ports but I want to EAT a ton of food and drink lots of alcohol. Food and alcohol and scrapbooking do not mix for me. Tracie Claiborne has a scrapbooking cruise coming up in October I think. But man, that is VERY expensive! I'd rather take that money and spend time with my loved ones. Not a bunch of strangers.

I've been very tempted in the idea but scrapbooking and cruising wouldn't mix for me...like oil and water. I can do one or the other but not both!

Agreed. They seem to be, in my opinion, for retired SATH moms who kids have grown up and moved on but their husbands are still working and earning big money, but they need something to fill their time. I honestly can't think why anyone else would choose to spend all that money on a vacation without their family or other half. I wouldn't take time off work it spend all that money to go on a cruise without my OH. Live your life, document it later.

Being a travel agent and knowing what cruises actually cost, the act of paying for a "scrapping cruise" will never happen for me. The mark up for time I could be having fun on the ship is too much. I did take a Royal Caribbean cruise last year, one day was a half hour scrapbooking session and later that day was a half hour cardmaking session. Received a free kit both times and the session was free. That was plenty of time to get my fix for the 3 day cruise. I got home and had fun scrapping the memories I made having fun.

I love cruises! We are planning a Disney cruise. But there is no way I'd want to scrap on a cruise. That just doesn't interest me at all! I think like a lot of you have said, I want to vacation with my family. If they came along on that trip, I would want to spend time with them vs scrapping or taking classes. And it doesn't appeal to me to go alone or with a friend on a cruise. Plus I like to pack as light as possible since ships have such minimal storage. I mix and match clothes, rewear things etc. and can't imagine having to pack tools and scrap supplies too. No way.
I'm much more likely to drive somewhere for the weekend to crop, take classes, etc.

The food was awful, and having to change dining rooms each night was confusing for many. The ship closed everything at 11 so there was NOTHING to do but go to bed. Don't mind the no casino as I don't play anyway, but a place to listen to music other than the hallway would have been nice.
