What does age have to do with boots? I really don't get people who even think this way, honestly, It is probably because every time we turn around, young people tell older people that they shouldn't wear certain things or we will look ridiculous, or that we are trying to hard, or not dressing our age or some other kind of nonsense. That's very true. OP, I think that style is ageless and you should go for it!

I hope you've bought your boots jmad122 I was trying on flat ankle boots yesterday tucked my skinny jeans inside - hubby laughed and said it looked ridiculous until the shop assistant told him otherwise So I purchased them - I'm 53 We may be married to brothers. My DH still can't handle cropped pants! And he told me blue doesn't go with brown. He's 62. Maybe I'll totally freak him out and wear white pants today, after Labor Day, gasp.

It gets to be sometimes that we, those of us of a certain age, feel like we have to have validation before we start wearing items that are not common to our normal wardrobe choices. We also get told about all the things that supposedly make us look older too. Stinks really, you can't win. The great beauty of getting older is that you begin to give way fewer fucks what anyone thinks, including younger people. Last night I rocked skinny jeans and ankle booties. I'll be 42 in November.

Oh, I agree. I am 50 and honestly, these days, I buy clothes that I like vs. clothes that 'appropriate.' I have always been a bit of a ... free spirit ... when it comes to clothes (my mom claims I was that way even as a little kid) so I am not one to particularly listen. But it sure does get old when you are surrounded by the youth culture that tries to dictate your whole life based on chronological age. I can absolutely see why we ask the question 'is it okay?' Even the fashion industry wants the not sweet young things to be pigeon-holed into a dark fashionless corner filled with polyester pants and shirts with bands on the bottom and not encroach into the world of cool stuff.

What does age have to do with boots? I really don't get people who even think this way, honestly, I just wanted to make sure that they wouldn't look too silly on someone my age. i think certain clothes items do have a age limit. Maybe booties aren't up there with cropped tops, but thought I would put it out there. I tend to dress quite conservatively. Just a simple question. Your age? That hideous ripe old crone age of 45? GTFO You know, statements like this make the old age stereotype even more entrenched. Age has nothing to do with boots. Or skinny jeans. Or sleeveless shirts. Or, even, really anything. SaveSave

Wear them! I never understand why people think a fashion trend is not appropriate based on their age. I think you would love ankle boots! I can't wear many shoes at all because of bunions and I hate that! If I didn't have bunions, I would love ankle boots!

I bought a couple pairs last year and I get so many compliments on them, including from my 20-something fashion conscious cousins and daughter.
I wear them alone with a dress, or with leggings or skinny jeans. I actually got them at Old Navy and they're surprisingly comfortable.

So do you wear your ankle boots inside or outside of your skinny jeans and do you wear them with dresses? I wear my skinny jeans and leggings tucked in (or more so slouchy) since they don't fit over any of my boots. Bootcut style jeans are the ones that work to wear over your boots.

In my humble opinion, no one is ever too old too do anything that they enjoy doing or to wear what they enjoy wearing.

You can wear ankle boots at any age, I think. You don't have to do the skinny or ankle jean either; they can be worn with boot cut jeans too. That's how I usually wear them. Personally for *me*, I can't get the ankle boots and skinny jeans to work. I know it's the current trend, but I think I look wobbly or something. I feel better wearing riding boots. I think it looks awkward on a lot of folks. But they like it so I guess I just shrug and carry on.

Just bought the cutest pair of Cobb Hill ankle boots to wear with my skinny jeans and I'll be 40 in a few weeks. I plan to look and feel 29 forever though so I won't worry about the so called "older people fashion rules" !

So I admit to going on Pinterest and searching ankle boot outfits and decided to cuff my skinny jeans just above the ankle boot which you see in many do's and dont's of ankle boot wear. Yes I followed that "rule" and got many compliments on my outfit last night so success? Plus these boots are too cute to cover with jeans.

I did some retail therapy on Thursday, and shopped at a few of the stores that cater more to the young - American Eagle, Buckle, and Victoria's Secret. Most of the women also shopping in those stores that day were my age or older. It was nice and even validating to see. I also now live in a place where just about anything goes fashion-wise, and I'm slowly becoming more adventurous in my style. It's been fun .

Of course you're too old to wear ankle boots. I think you are required to wear orthopedic shoes at your advanced age. If you like the boots, then enjoy them. I hate those stupid "rules" about what women over the age of x should or shouldn't wear. If you like something and it's appropriate for the occasion....wear it and enjoy!

Ankle boots are totally find over 40. The Express has some nice ones, I have the third shoe on the top row in gray. Gray shoes look really good with black jeans.

At 68 I have the wisdom to not care what the crap other people think. I also wear leggings on occasion. And you know what ~ I rock them!!

I had never seen the Sheaffer blog ~ I don't really read blogs since I'm old ~ but she is hilarious. I loved her Bachelorette recap for the finale.

Rocking 45! I use Pinterest all the time to get dressed. I just bought army green pants because I saw a photo of them with a chambray shirt.
