Happy Monday to all. I did something this weekend I hadn't done in 15 years...I joined Weight Watchers (the online version). I'd been thinking about it over the last couple weeks as I struggled to get back on track and then elaine joined us and mentioned it and that motivated me further. I did WW all those years ago and successfully lost 13 pounds. Until about 2 years ago, I'd kept that weight off. I won't go to meetings this time; not my style and it doesn't fit my schedule. I just need more accountability than MFP. I'm now trying to get back into WW think with the smart points. I need to lose about 10 pounds, which may not sound like a lot, but at my age and with my metabolism, that's a big deal. It was very heartening to see so many people checking in over the weekend. We are here to share and encourage no matter where we are. I think we're mostly unanimous in our dislike of the term "weight loss journey," so let's say we all are interested in getting happier and healthier (and fitting into our jeans!)

Oooh, I think you will love the WW tracking, tuesdaysgone . I know I love it. I love the app. I also love it's connected to my FitBit. I like the weight tracker, everything. And I hear ya on the 10 lbs not sounding like a lot. I would like to lose 10-15 more lbs but it is so slow at this age. I mean even a gram of food makes a difference. Weighing my food truly shows me how easily things add up and how little I need. It's rainy here today. Shouldn't complain as we are almost 8" under what we need this year. I just hope I can walk the dogs between a deluge. I need that walk/jog time, and they do too! Since I can't do laundry until Friday when my new washer arrives, I will be doing little odd things around here and also hope to paint today. I also need to prepare for prayer group tomorrow as I am leading. And I am making stuffed peppers for dinner. Yum!!! Enjoy the day everyone!

Today is my day off from exercising after 5 days in a row which is a lot for me. My plan for today is to knuckle down and make a banner for the school (that I'm not too excited to make.)
Happy Monday everyone.

I'm so happy you tagged me, tuesdaysgone, and that I might had helped even a tiny bit in your getting a little healthier. So far, so good in terms of WW. I'm down a couple of pounds already, but I'm sure it is water weight at this point. I'll take it though! I am continuing to enjoy that fruits and veggies are 0 points, so I don't have to feel guilty about eating an apple or banana when I am hungry. Which, for me, means that so far I haven't had that gnawing hunger that usually comes along with a diet for me. And for the first time, I'm not really interested in the boxed diet snacks that are full of chemicals and additives. I don't judge people who do eat them - I certainly ate my share of them over the years - just happy to not feel the need to eat them yet. On this plan, I don't feel deprived, so I'm not seeking "treats." All that said, tonight I am blowing all my extra points and fitness points. We were given Diamond Club seats at the Nationals Game (worth $1200 for our family of 4) and they come with unlimited gourmet food and drink in the club behind home plate. Life is too short to dampen this experience - which is once in a lifetime - worrying about calories. So, since I've gotten a good start, and I know that I won't have a problem picking it back up again tomorrow. I haven't eaten my daily 30 points yet, so I know I can do it. It really does stink getting older and how hard it is to lose weight at 53. I really do like food and it makes me sad how little I need at this age.

I've been reading this thread for a long time and participated awhile ago. Then life got busy and I just didn't have the time. Now that we have gotten into our school routine, I'm ready to focus on getting healthier so I hope its ok that I join the group.
I have been overweight most of my life. I started gaining after I had my tonsils out at 5 and it has been a battle ever since. I lost about 40 pounds with Weight Watchers after my first son, but now three more kids later I am at my highest weight ever.
Last week I started walking my dog more just to get some sort of exercise in. This week is crazy busy, but I'm hoping to continue with our walks and start working on my diet. Food is always the hardest part of me because I am not a big fan of fruits and vegetables. I am trying, but yuck!
Thanks for letting me join in!

elaine, it makes me so sad too at how much little food we need as we age. It suck especially for those of us that love food! And 4cboysmommy, welcome back. I would find a couple of fruits and veggies you can tolerate. Then add something to them. For instance, I have natural peanut butter with my apple or my banana. With veggies, I add mixed spices that I get from a specialty store in town. LOVE making them taste like different flavors. I add the spices to green beans, peas, broccoli, etc. The only one I probably don't add it to is corn. I like veggies but I love them more with the fun and different spices. Just an idea for you.

I had a disaster of a weekend when it came to eating. I was hungry and cranky. The peanut butter was good though. You may be thinking a spoonful of peanut butter isn't the end of the world, but if you ate as much as I did and with a wrap you would shake your head. I was hungry and I wanted something sweet. Today is another day I guess. I am taking a new medication and it makes me hungry. It's supposed to be an appetite suppressant and it makes me famished. It also keeps me up all night long.
I will try to eat better today.

I joined WW this weekend as well, but that's as far as I've gotten. I paid for online plus weekly meetings, as I have a place a ten minute walk from home. I successfully joined WW and lost weight after my babies were born, youngest is now 26. I went from weighing 117 (5'4") at age 41 to 172 lbs today. I don't recognize myself in the mirror. Thursday night I got my lipid and glucose results via email from our clinic, and Friday morning I joined WW.
My current goal is to lose 20 pounds. I am never going to weigh 117 again and don't really want to. If I could get to 140 eventually I think I'd be thrilled. I have a gym membership, joined on Jan 1st (such a stereotype) and went to classes faithfully 3 x a week until mid May. Since then I've been constantly "flying by the seat of my pants" - lots of travel, house guests, projects and obligations and I've been to the gym just three times in the last 2 months. I paid for 8 sessions with a personal trainer back in January as well, and will be setting up appointments soon. (Down with a bad head cold as of yesterday afternoon.)
My immediate question is - what will happen at my first meeting? HOW DO I FIGURE OUT WHAT and HOW MUCH TO EAT? I don't have a lot of time to study a program....
TIA

flanz , have you ever done WW before? If not, here are some basic things I recommend: 1. Get their phone app. It's invaluable to me, and makes figuring things out very, very easy! There is even a bar code scanner you can use. This is great in the grocery so you know how many points something is before you buy it. 2. Get a food scale. I weigh everything I eat, and I have for years. It's truly an eye opener as far as servings. 3. Weigh yourself at the same time in the same clothing each week. I choose Monday mornings as soon as I wake up in my panties. 4. Enter your foods for the day in the morning if you know them. That way you know what you have left for dinner/snacks. For instance, I know we are having stuffed peppers for dinner, I know what my snack this afternoon will be, etc. It's all entered already for the day. Makes it easier to know what you can have if you get hungry. I am sure I will remember some other important things but those are the first and most important IMO. Glad to have you joining in!

Thanks very much, @patter! I have a very old food scale, not sure how accurate it is. I'm guessing they sell them at the meetings, right? I cook a LOT from scratch. Is it hard to figure out calories or points or whatever it is we're using, when doing so?

I hav used a Cruisinart scale for years. Love it! And you can enter your own recipes on the website. I find it easier to do that on the website than on the app. It will then calculate the points per serving for you. It can be a pain but once the recipe is entered then you never have to enter it again. It's just the initial setting up your recipes that can be time consuming.

Is it hard to figure out calories or points or whatever it is we're using, when doing so? I cook a lot from scratch too - since starting on Friday morning- my first official weigh in - I've entered two recipes to get to points value. It isn't that hard, but takes a little time. I agree with @patter that Amazon, or if you have a bed, bath, and beyond near you and a 20% coupon, would be much cheaper than WW. If you bought both their shopping guide and their restaurant guide books when I was there on Friday, it was only $15 total for the two, so I did buy those, even though you can much of the same info on the computer or app.

I recently got a cheap digital food scale on Amazon and really like it so far. Under $10.

good luck to all the WW gals - I think if there were local meetings that were convenient for me - WW would be helpful but I can't justify the cost for the online program. I think I DO need a local, in-person support group for weight loss - just haven't found one yet My sister is doing OA and finding it very helpful - but there isn't one here. I got plenty of exercise this weekend - hauling stuff out of the house for the yard sale, doing the yard sale (6 hours), hauling stuff back INTO the house. And then on Sunday, hauling everything except the big furniture BACK out of the house into the vans and then OUT of the vans and into SIL's storage shed (she's having another yard sale next wknd - which thankfully I get to miss). Fingers crossed someone buys the furniture off FB and we don't have to haul it anywhere else. I hurt all over and my knee is not at all happy with me - I definitely overdid it with 17K steps on Sat and 8k on Sunday (I'm supposed to be staying off my knee as much as possible). Today is a sit and work at the computer day.

Peanut butter is actually one of my red-light foods. I grew up eating peanut butter & jelly sandwiches on white bread and I love everything about peanut butter. When I went on Whole30 earlier this summer, it was the first time in my life I had gone 30 days without peanut butter. By not eating it, I realized how emotional my attachment was to the sweet-salty food of my youth! I've changed to almond-sunflower butter with no added sugar, which doesn't taste that bad but actually isn't that good either. There is very little chance I will overeat it, lol.

10 pounds! If I can lose 10 in a year, that is cause for celebration!!! Actually, I am down 10 from February, when I started going to OrangeTheory fitness. I was hoping to make it 20, but life gets in the way. 2 surgeries and a few vacations... and one more oral surgery that I still need to get around to scheduling this year. I worked out on Friday and that was exhausting. Went again today and aimed still to keep my heart rate only in a purely aerobic zone. Only had to completely stop twice for nausea and maybe 2 other times to get my heart rate down. Really looking forward to being able to work out at a normal effort again soon. This is just taking too long to kick. I am planning on going at least 2 or 3 more times this week though. I figure more work outs at a lesser effort is better than nothing. Eating has been borderline. I need to go food shopping myself this week. Dh normally does it. We have almost nothing "safe" to snack on aside from raw almonds. Too much junk- donuts, rice crispie treats, and candy.

Hello everyone!
This morning I was rudely awakened by my alarm and instead of pushing snooze like usual, I actually got up and did my workout. Or rather, attempted to. My cat was stalking me and she can be vicious. She bites and I could not get her to leave me alone. So I didn't get as much of a workout in as I would have liked, but at least I was up! Lol.
I'm doing some work at home right now and am going into the office later. Was working on paperwork but need a break so I am going to try to tackle the laundry room floor. The other day I was trying to open the extra fridge in there and ended up dropping a gallon of milk on the floor. It splattered everywhere and probably under the washer/dryer and who know where. I thought I had it cleaned up but the whole house smells like rotten milk so there must be something lingering. Ugh.

For the first time in two or three days, I've had a good, in control day. Now, if I can just keep this going 'til dinner, I'm golden! I had some pain in my heel yesterday and I realized I over-did it on Saturday going shopping for groceries etc. in my Crocs. Yes. It was dumb. I managed to get some supportive shoes and I managed to make it through the day with very little heel pain--hoping this means the plantar fascitius is healing...I have 4 weeks of no exercise per doctor's orders. I was going to try and get on the bike at the gym, but I'm worried I'll do something to injure myself. I will, however, go to my deep water aqua class tomorrow and see if I can switch from water aerobics to the deep water aqua class on Thursdays. I checked with the surgeon before I left on Thursday and she said that was fine as there's no impact on my heel. I'm hoping I'll get to my June weight soon! I'm only about a pound away so....crossing fingers!
