I gave it to my son's old school and I feel so much lighter knowing it's all gone. Now, there is still a LOT of stuff left. I still have to pare down what I have to 1/3 of what I had so then I will have 1/3 of what I had then. I have to be realistic how much stuff I will use in my lifetime. I feel so much lighter in my heart. The school was thrilled to get so many containers of stuff. I said I still have tons more and their eyes were just shining. The supplies are old, but the principal said the teachers would be thrilled to get all of it. They were so excited. (I was kind of embarrassed knowing how much I had spent on the stuff and how much was there.) But it sure did feel good!

It always feels good to de-stash. I'm sure the school really appreciated it!

I was kind of embarrassed knowing how much I had spent on the stuff and how much was there I read somewhere that as long as the product brought you joy - either by simply owning it or by using it - then it was worth what you paid for it. Now you've passed the joy along to someone else. Congratulations on the clean out, it sounds like it has been a massive task but you also seem more inspired by what your stash now holds.

Yay! for you. Last year I donated a lot of paper and supplies too. It's very liberating.

Yay for you!!
Just curious, what do you give to schools? I have a bunch of stuff to donate, but other than paper, and maybe ribbon and buttons, I don't know know what the schools would like. Do they take thickers, die-cut embellishments, etc?

Opened the drawers and cupboards and gave. I gave ribbon, stamps, paper, embellishments, stickers, rubons, and paints and ink pads. Anything I didn't think I would use got donated.

I did the same thing a few years ago. I went through my stuff and brought it to the elementary school nearby. They were absolutely thrilled and it made me feel better than I imagined. Its the reason I don't sell the things I no longer have a need for. It feels so much better to give things to people that need and appreciate it.

Do they take thickers, die-cut embellishments, etc? Our schools would take it all. Back when I was a kid, you only used craft supplies in art class and home economics. My kids have to make collages in English class, three dimension art in history class, and build models in science class.

I'm just wondering if you can take a tax write off for a school donation.

Yes, you can if the school is a non-profit organization, I THINK. I don't know that for sure. They said they would give me a tax write off so that helps.

In my experience the guilt/bad feelings about spending too much money goes away really quickly after I get rid of the items. I would feel awful every time I saw the things sitting there unused. But once they were gone I just didn't feel bad any more.

In my experience the guilt/bad feelings about spending too much money goes away really quickly after I get rid of the items. I would feel awful every time I saw the things sitting there unused. But once they were gone I just didn't feel bad any more. I am relieved to say the least. I was ticked off at myself for spending the money in the first place, but getting rid of it is a relief. I got rid of a lot today and at one point I just said EFF it and get rid of it. It wasn't bringing me joy any more. It had to go. I have empty cupboards now which is a nice feeling. That is a nice feeling. I found some more stuff in a cupboard that needs to go. I started to panic after a while and got sick of loading the containers. I was "done" with the mists and found another 20 or so. I was like OMG NOOOOOOOO! I dealt with all of them already. I don't want to see more of them. I had to give up and leave the room. There was stuff new in the packages (of course) that I still liked but really in 5 years or 10 years if I haven't used it am I really going to? I found tons and tons of Chatterbox embellishments. I don't need them. I found the stuff at Winners (TJMaxx) and it all had to go. It's old and it wasn't making me happy any longer. I don't have tons of punches but I do have some. I have to figure out what to do with all of them. I mean there are lots of them still to decide. I am not a huge punch person, but I might want them. Then what? Some of these are rare and/or limited edition. They may make me happy and bring me joy. (From Konmarie) I just don't know.

Good for you! I must do that, too. I know the local public school would love to have a bunch of my stuff. I have made donations to them in the past, but not for a long time.
I particularly loved your comment that the old stuff wasn't making you happy any longer. I know exactly what you mean. You loved it once, then never used it, and now it's a burden to keep looking at it. Great philosophy! ... and a super way to get rid of the guilt over the cash spent!

Then what? Some of these are rare and/or limited edition. They may make me happy and bring me joy. I would set that kind of thing aside, maybe all together in a box, and give yourself a deadline. You might be right - once you clear the clutter and get back to actually *crafting* those things may bring you a lot of joy again. I would put the box out of the way with a date on it, preferably without any details of what's inside. If you go digging in there for things in the future and use them (and keep using them) it makes sense to keep them. The phrase "I might want them" is generally a red flag in decluttering, but I get it... It's hard to part with tools because they are pricey and it's hard to make do without them when you need them.
