We have a bunch of photos of my sister and I growing up that I want to scrap/Project Life so that the memories are recorded. That will give my parents input about what was going on in the photos and have my parents tell my sister and I apart (my sister and I are twins and as little kids/babies I have a hard time telling us apart in some photos! Esp. when we're not standing side by side).
My sister and I were born in '83 so most of our photos are from the '80s and '90s (my family started going digital in the early 2000's). These aren't vintages photographs and I don't feel like they'll ever be treasured like the ones from earlier decades, probably because we still use the same general photo type now a days, even when we print from digital photos.
I am working on scanning all our family photos so if something happens we still have copies of them somewhere (I'm putting them on private setting on Flickr, as well as on an external hard drive).
I do want to round corners when I scrapbook them/put them in Project Life (I am thinking Project Life style is going to be easier for these older photos rather than regular scrapbooking).
My question is this: Would you go ahead and scrap the original photos, or order new prints of the photos you just scanned photos and continue to store the originals somewhere?

I would not scrap the originals if you are going to cut them. Since you are already scanning the photos, it's not a big deal to print them off. And then both you and your sister will have a copy. Heck, you could even make a book for your parents. It may be easier to do multiple copies as a digital book. I find Project Life more difficult than it appears--especially since I'm using the same pockets on the next page, which may not lend itself to the same configuration.
I don't think the value of vintage photos is that they are black and white, grainy, or just look different from modern photos. The value is that they are family from a bygone era. Which for my kids was the 80s! LOL But 50 years from now, your family will look at your childhood photos the same way that you look at your parent's photos.

Separate albums would normally be a good idea, but we all live together, so it just takes up that much more space, so it's a bit frustrating not having anywhere to put them. (My dad is disabled and we live in an expensive area, so my sister moved in the guest house in back & I live in the house with my parents to help with living expenses.) Maybe I'll just use the original photos and skip cutting the corners. I don't want to have to spend the money to buy photos I already have. And the more I think about it, the more I don't want those photos to take up twice the space if I just use the originals instead of ordering more. I never though that people would look back on photos from the '80s like I look at my parents from the '50s and '60s, mostly because the majority of them look like they could be printed today, but you do have a point.

But will you always all live together? You look pretty young--you or your sister could marry one day, or just move out on your own! I look at my photos from the 80s and think they look nothing like my photos do today. For one thing, my parents house was gold and brown. NO ONE'S house looks like that anymore! And the photos weren't taken with a zoom, so there's lots of other stuff in the background other than the person being photographed. And even now, the color just isn't as sharp as newly developed photos. In the end, you should do what makes you happy. If you have a digital copy, I would say that you have your backup. There's no rule that says you can't make another album for your sister if she should move out eventually.

I would scrap the originals and know that the backup is available if/when needed.

I would scrap the originals, but not trim corners. What point does it serve to store the originals and go to the expense of printing all of those photos? SInce you are scanning them you know that you always have the photos to reprint if necessary.

I would scrap the originals. What better place to store them than a scrapbook? I would not round the corners. Not all pocket page brands have rounded corners like the BH ones. Since you have scanned them and saved them elsewhere, you are covered if you want more copies.
I scrap my photos from the early '80's. My oldest sons were born in 1982 and 1985. I only scrap copies if I am putting the photo in more than one album, or I want to crop the photo.
What ever you do, you are already ahead by having digital copies already!

I would scrap the originals as long as I have a good backup.

I would scrap the originals as well and make sure you have them backed up in two separate places. I just finished a four day project of scanning all of my DD's professional and school photos. I (gulp) actually threw away all the extra wallets and smaller size poses. I kept the 8x10's and 5x7's.

If it were me I would probably make a few test prints from the scans to make sure the quality is as good as the original. I have scanned some photos and had some sent out to be professionally scanned. Even when they look great on my computer sometimes they look off when I print the scans unless I do a lot of correcting in Lightroom so I always do test prints before doing anything destructive to the photo. Of course there are times when the scans look better or just as good as the original. If the reprints look as good as the originals then I would scrap the originals and feel free to round the corners. Of course that is just because I am super paranoid about preserving the integrity of my photos from the pre-digital age. Most people who are lacking in my OCD tendencies wouldn't worry about it. I envy them LOL!

Thanks for the suggestions! chasity, I have some photos I scanned then ordered digital copies of on the way. I'm hoping to get them in the next day or two. I scan my photos myself, but I'm paranoid about the quality and DPI just the same!

I would scan the originals and make prints. A lot of my photos from the 70's/80's have some color issues and needed little tweaks anyway... or the originals say something on the back that I might want to see later.

If you don't round the corners, I say PL the originals. If you really like the look of the rounded corners, then I say scrap the copies.

My vote is to scrap the originals however you want. You have digital copies so I'd give yourself permission to be creative and save space!
