Around the end of October I shall be driving from Ottawa to Quebec/Quebec City.
I have been told that the hwy 138 is a scenic route that runs along St. Lawrence. It is supposed to be slower traffic and small towns, but more to see than if one zips along the major highway.
Would you agree? Will it be a trip you would make?
Two women, who like to shop are making the trip. I thought that besides the scenery, we might hit some antique shops etc.

Sorry I've never driven east of Montreal. Sounds fun though!

I live in Ottawa and I am orginially from Quebec City, and I do that at least six times a year. I am just back tonight! Yes, it would be scenic, but it would take quite a while. I am not sure I would do that. The best route is to avoid Montreal. Cross to Gatineau, take highway 50 east, then highway 15 south, then highway 640 east, and then highway 40 east. You will fin lots of antiques stores in Quebec City or nearby. Please peamail me if you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them. ETA : sorry, I confused the 132 and the 138. Since the 138 is on the north shore and runs parallel to highway 40, then yes, it might be worth considering. There are some pretty cute villages along the way. Not sure about the antiques shops though!

If you take the more scenic route you can take Le chemin du Roy. King's Road. There is a website with lots of informaiton of what you can find along that route. If you have the time it is beautiful. Le chemin du Roy
