This was in our local paper since we live near Fremont ~ actually we lived there until the late 80's. One woman said that she was all set to sign the petition but after seeing the text decided she didn't have a problem with it.
ETA: Fremont has a large Indian and Asian population so that could well factor into the outrage.

I think it's impossible to have an intelligent, reasonable conversation about this without being able to actually see and read the book.
After watching the video all I feel is that that was poor journalism. I don't want to know how random people on the street feel about the text, I want to know the facts about what is actually said in the text. The story gave us none of that.

I am not opposed to allowing my children thoughtful information about this "side" of sexual health. I think it is very important to teach that sexuality isn't a single thing, but a wide variety of tastes and opinions.
