Does anyone have a good recipe for these? I have the one my Mom always made, but it uses a can of Gumbo soup and I can't seem to find that in the stores around here. I haven't made Sloppy Joes in ages as my kids didn't like them, but now that they are on their own, I have been trying to make things that we used to have before kids. So looking for a new recipe. Thanks.

I have made this one from Pioneer Woman, minus the bell pepper.

Thanks. My mom made hers with chicken gumbo soup too and so do I. I use 1 1/2 pounds ground beef, can of manwich, can of Chicken Gumbo soup. Sometimes I'll add a little ketchup and mustard. But that is my basic recipe. We all like the soup in it as it adds texture. I can send you cans of chicken gumbo soup !!

I have made this one from Pioneer Woman, minus the bell pepper. Mine is pretty much this one minus the chili powder and Tabasco. Instead of dry mustard, I use yellow mustard.

SaveI like it because it has some kick to it. It's a more adult recipe, I suppose. I do still use the red bell pepper, but only about 1/2 to 2/3 of one, cut really small! Green peppers are just nasty, so that is why I replace that one with the onion! I can deal with the red ones in small amounts.

Wow so many recipes!!! Quinlove, thanks for the offer, I might take you up on that!! Absolutely. I seriously don't think I could eat them with out the soup added in. I love all the rice and chicken texture and as you know, you really don't taste them. Please let me know where to send soup.

I've tried several different recipes and my family has chosen this Sloppy Joes recipe as their favorite. ETA: and no, I didn't name the recipe.

I know this is not a traditional sloppy joe recipe, but it is GOOD! My family and I discovered it in our process of transitioning to become vegan....(still working on that). I've been trying recipes and some are keepers and some, not so much. This one is a keeper and whenever we want sloppy joes...this is our new go-to.

Here's how I make mine & my family loves it!
2.5 lbs. ground beef chopped celery shredded carrots, a handful or so onions garlic peppers (if you want)
I saute the onion, garlic, carrots & celery for few minutes in a skillet. I then add the ground beef & cook until done. Turn the heat down to low & add a cup of katsup & a tlb. of Worcestershire sauce. Simmer 20 mins. Then:
1 cup of katsup 1-2 tlb. mustard 1 tlb brown sugar and a dash more of Worcestershire
Mix well & add to ground beef mixture & cook for another 10-15 mins or until hot.

This is the one I use as well and DH and I love it. I usually make her Deviled Potato Salad mentioned at the bottom of the recipe to go with it (my FAVORITE potato salad recipe by far) but I add boiled eggs.

This is the Sloppy Joe recipe I've used since sometime in the '70's. It's a family favorite and compared to most recipes posted here this one is quite savory.
2 lbs hamburger, browned and drained 2 Tble dried onions 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 tsp garlic powder 1 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp dry mustard 1/2 tsp ginger 1/2 tsp allspice 1/2 tsp chili powder 2 tsp soy sauce 2 Tble Worchestershire sauce 4 Tble vinegar 1/2 cup catsup 1 15oz can tomato sauce 10-12 drops liquid smoke Add all ingredients to cooked hamburger and simmer for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

Man you guys are over achievers. Brown some ground turkey (or ground beef if that's how you roll) grab a can of your favorite jarred spaghetti sauce and add until desired messiness is achieved.

I just use the seasoning packet from Kroger, added to ground beef and a can of tomato paste. It's the lazy Guy's version!

Rachael Ray's recipe is probably my most-used recipe ever! My husband craves these sloppy joes!

But...that's just spaghetti sauce with meat! That goes over pasta, not on a bun! And spaghetti sauce spices are wrong. Sloppy joes have to have that sweet/tangy flavor along with the tomato base. I reject your sloppy joes! Be gone! Save

I'm a Manwich from the can kind of sloppy joe girl. Cook it down a little to deepen the flavor, but that's it. Yum!

This is what we use also. I use the McCormick Sloppy Joe's packet but use ketchup in place of the tomato paste (because that is what my mom did). It's the only way I have ever eaten sloppy joe's. I have been wanting to try Rachel Ray and Pioneer Woman's recipes, but the other way is just so easy so I stick with it.

Thanks for sharing this, I'm going to give it a try soon! I hate HATE diced pepper and onion chunks in my food (I know, I'm strange lol) and I've always wondered how to get flavor into sloppy joes without those items. Admittedly, I often buy jars of sloppy joe and just puree it with my immersion blender. This sounds like the perfect solution!

I have made this one from Pioneer Woman, minus the bell pepper. I've also used this one -- it's really good. However, I do not add a full cup of water, as I don't like sloppy Joes to be quite that sloppy.
