They just won't die! DD is going into 9th grade. She's had the same lunch box since second grade and wants a change. But that lunchbox is still going strong!

Of course I don't see this as a problem but DD tends to disagree. LOL

consider it money well spent, pass it down to a younger kid and let her get a new one.
We had the same problem with lands end backpacks.

Ha. I just bought DS a deluxe backpack and he's going into second grade. I told DH it was the last one we were buying him between now and HS graduation. DH said "we'll see". He has no idea.

DD1 got an LL Bean bookbag for preK 3 and we just replaced it this year because it just wasn't big enough for a 5th grader. It's still in good shape though and washes up beautifully.

I love them! My oldest is on his second LL Bean bag. The first one was the Critter pack he got for preschool. After his second grade year he told me he was a big kid and couldn't use that one anymore So for third grade we bought him the deluxe, so it'll last him for quite some time! He's starting sixth grade Tuesday, and he did some moaning about it being boring and plain. But I reminded him that if we got him some "cool " brand, we'd have to replace it mid year and he wouldn't get another "cool" one. So I compromised and we spent a little money on a "cool" brand lunch box that I'll have to replace! His LL Bean that matches his critter pack is still going strong except for having some discoloration inside

DD had her backpack for school for 2 years, then right at the end of last year, she managed to get the zipper to the main compartment so jammed that we couldn't get it to budge even a little, and we had to cut the pack open to get her stuff out. We did get a replacement sent out for that!

I had an LL Bean ski jacket that I'd had for years. The zipper got so stuck that I had to break it to get out of the jacket. I thought the jacket was a goner, but did wear it for awhile with a broken zipper. They opened an LL Bean store in a mall near us so we decided to take it in and see about getting it fixed. They replaced it for free, no questions asked. I never expected that! It's not the same model, but the same level of jacket. Mine was so old they don't make it anymore. I will buy their stuff as much as possible from now on!

Yup. Land's End too. DH has a monogrammed nylon briefcase he got as a graduation gift nearly 30 yrs ago. It could stand to be cleaned, but otherwise, it's as good as new. About 10 yrs ago he considered writing to LE to "complain" that he wanted to get a new briefcase in a different color but this monogrammed one just wouldn't die!
I used an LL Bean backpack from 8th grade through high school, college and grad school. It's still around here somewhere and the kids use it occasionally for day hikes.
Now I wish appliances and other big purchases would last so long!

Like, "Guaranteed Period" and "we guarantee it for the life of the product --- the customer determines what the life of the product is" (told to us at an REI store years ago after someone brought in what looked like ancient hiking boots and complained that they had worn out before their time)

We love our LL bean back packs. My kids have had theirs for over 3 years now and they still look new. I told that that was the last back pack I was buying so pick your style wisely. HA!

I had no problem buying my son a new backpack or lunch box. Figured we got our money's worth, because they lasted so long anyway.

Love their stuff! That was the only backpack that could survive 1+ years of my son's abuse. He is hard on every.thing Now that he's grown up and buying his own clothes, he prefers shirts and shorts from "the Bean."

We'll be making a trek to LL Bean soon for backpacks. We just need to get bigger ones. The old ones are still great.

Okay, when I saw the thread title I thought to myself: The problem with LL Bean products is nothing. Everyone swears by them in our family. Then I realized your products have had long lives too. My son in law swears by their luggage.

I just ordered new travel hanging toiletries bags for DH and I . We are replacing the ones we bought in 2006. They are in good shape but got kind of funky over the years with the products. I think we got our monies worth out of the old ones!

I KNEW that's what you were going to say!! I haven't even read the other posts yet and I had to reply! My youngest & I are *fighting* about this very thing, only we're on opposite sides from you & your daughter. He has carried the same LL Bean backpack for 8 years and HE want to keep on using it! It's this one for sobbing out loud! Let's not even discuss that fact that it's a tad too babyish for a high school freshman. It's too freaking little for his books! We butt heads about this just about every day. I'm all about sentimental attachment. I'm not telling him his has to throw it out. It's just time to retire the thing!

Oh my heck..those LL Bookbags can last forever and ever. I used mine for well over a decade (nearly two!), and the only reason I finally got rid of it was that the water-resistant coating inside started flaking of and sticking to my stuff. I used to carry that thing everywhere. I took it as my carry-on on flights, hauled it on vacations, took it on hikes, used it in school, and kept it in my car with essentials. DS needs a new lunchbag, and I had my eye on LL Bean ones, so I'll warn him to pick one he thinks he'll like a good long time.

I bought DS #1 the tiniest bag for preschool. He used that 2 years and then I bought the next size, which he used in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, then I bought him the deluxe for 4th and now he's heading into 6th with it. Meanwhile we keep using the smaller ones in place of diaper bags, duffle bags, car trip fun bags, you name it. So now DS #2 is taking the tiny one to preschool.

I'm so glad to hear that! The last couple of times I bought backpacks, I bought Lands End. But after having it just a year, the zipper broke. I know they're guaranteed but I was annoyed that for a second time (had to do it on a couple of lunchboxes) I had them not hold up to my expectations. So we switched to LL Bean. DS is going into 6th grade and the twins into 4th. We'll see how they hold up!

I bought two at a garage sale years ago for $5 each. Spent an evening in front of the TV picking out the prior owner's monogram and they've used them ever since. At least 3-4 years heavy wear, on top of the prior owner, and they're going strong. Best $5 ever!
