Yep. I have a 10 year old hanging toiletry bag that's still going strong - and it's had a lot of use.

Well we broke down and let dd order a new lunchbox. She got a new winter coat too. We had a discount code. The coat was listed as backordered. So guess what? The coat came in last week. The lunchbox, on the other hand, is backordered til November!

Now I wish appliances and other big purchases would last so long! Amen to that. Maytag, I'm looking at you...

It's good to hear that these things last. I just received my 9 and 7 year old's backpacks from Lands End in the mail today. I told the girls I was not buying a new backpack for at least 4 years (although the 9 year old's cheapo backpack from Target is still holding up after two years she wanted something bigger) so they better pick a color they really liked. Next year I will order a new backpack for my 5 year old (he is using his backpack from preschool again this year) and then I will not have to buy another backpack until the baby starts school in 4 years, I'm so excited I would have ordered from LL Bean but I waited too long and everything was out of stock or not available until December. I was hoping Lands End would be a good second choice.

I have an LL Bean student backpack that I bought when I was 21. I'm now 38 and it's still in good shape!

Bean is the best. My son's backpack had a similar zipper issue. Took it back to the store and returned it. No questions asked.

Now I wish appliances and other big purchases would last so long! Amen to that. Maytag, I'm looking at you... Ah, Maytag.. Our last fridge was a Maytag - it lasted 12 years. The 90 yr old repair guy who'd been repairing Maytags forever told us to never buy a Maytag ever again as their quality had gone far downhill (we'd had 4 repairs over the years with the Maytag and no one was ever able to find the supposed integral water filter that was making our ice and water taste funky). So, when we replaced it, we got a Frigidaire --- it broke in the first week. We've had it a year and now have door shelves duct taped in place, produce drawers that are cracked or won't slide into place, a bottom grill that is broken on one side. DD is enjoying using her fancy duct tape to repair the fridge. I'm hoping we can get something that won't look like a piece of junk after just a year, but it will be a while before I can justify buying a new fridge! I think the Maytag was much better.

DS had a LL Bean lunchbox that he used for 8 years! His LL Bean backpack lasted from 6th grade all the way through college! He still uses it to carry fishing stuff!

You are right, they don't die. I do however buy them new ones every couple of years because they do get pretty nasty occasionally and washing them out doesn't always work.

Love this and so true! I bought my middle ds a rolling backpack from LL Bean years back. He ended up only using it a short time and switched schools and didn't have as many books to carry. Well that sucker wasn't cheap so I kept it. I have purged a lot but I have thought I am not getting rid of that thing and knew someday my little guy might use it. It is black and classic so it won't go out of style. Love their quality!

Someone needs to send a link of this thread to LLBean Customer Service!
I buy a lot of things from LLB and Eddie Bauer...my DH loves their dress shirts for work.

Warning. you may not want to buy clothing from places like L.L. Bean, or Lands' End once you keep a steady size... I have tops and bottoms from both that are nearly 20+ years old, never mind the jackets that do not wear out.

My dd must be extremely hard on hers because the hanging strap has broken twice on her deluxe backpack in 3 years. The first time I did exchange it, but dd wanted a new backpack this year from Aeropostale, so I didn't try to exchange the 2nd one. My boys also have them, though, and haven't had any issues, so I do agree they're great backpacks.

DS is 4 and we just bought him the Junior Original with a lunchbox for pre-k. DH nearly flipped at the price, but I insisted because I know this will last him a long, LONG time. Now I'm going to send him this thread as proof! I had my LL Bean messenger back from 10th grade through the end of college and it was still perfect. I kept onto it after that until a few years ago when we did a big purge. I will never buy another brand of backpack - ever.

We have new LL Bean backpacks and lunch bags this year. We only replaced our Lands End ones because the kids were tired of the colors after three years . I'm glad to hear the LL Bean ones are just as durable. They seem to hold more than our Lands End ones did too, with a lot more pockets.

My DS used the same LL Bean backpack from K to middle of Gr 7. He made a switch to a larger backpack, there is NOTHING wrong with the old one, he still uses it for travel/sleepovers.

Just put in an order for DD's backpack. We won't get it until Nov, but that's OK. I didn't think about it sooner. Kept meaning to, this thread reminded me! Hopefully she will like this backpack for a long time.

A few days ago I saw that episode of The Middle where Brick just couldn't get into the new school year because he couldn't adjust to his new backpack. It just didn't have his back. Brought tears to my eyes.
So disregard my earlier post. I told my kid that the new one I just paid $70 for would be hanging on the back of his bedroom door should he need it, but that I wouldn't give him a hard time about taking his trusty pal to high school with him.

We bought DD a backpack and lunchbox from LL Bean. So happy to know they last forever!!
For those with backordered backpacks, check their stores. Dd's was suppose to ship in December but DH found it in a store in Connecticut. They shipped it out and we had it two days later.
