What does Echo do that the Dot doesn't? Is it worth it or is the Echo WAAAAY better?
I see you can buy 5 Dots and get the sixth free. If they are pretty cool, then that would be quite a few xmas gifts to cross off the list!
Thanks for any info!

The Dot so I don't have first hand experience yet...but I saw that deal and did a lot of research before buying. I ended up buying them (great deal and not a bad price for each one).
Basically there are 2 differences 1) The Echo has a longer range, meaning it can hear your voice from another room - mine can hear my voice from all over the house (small house). You need to be closer to the Dot (such as in the same room) or use a remote from another room for it to hear you well. That isn't a big deal, since I am usually in the room when I use it anyway.
2) The Echo has a high quality built in speaker. The Dot has a very good quality speaker but isn't quite as good as the Echo. You can connect the Dot to external speakers though, if you want to boost them.
For the difference in the price, the Dot is a good choice. I am giving them for Christmas gifts and keeping the freebie for myself to use at work.
Oh one more thing - minor - the Echo comes in black. The Dot comes in White or Black (I mixed up my 6-pack)

Disneypal - Thanks so much. I don't think I see that much of a difference to spend the extra $ on the Echo!
6 pack it is!

BUMP - Did anyone get one who can give us a review? I'm interested in using the Dot as a speaker for my nightly netflix watching. My ipad is pretty hard to hear when I have my fan going. Is it loud enough for that?

Is it loud enough for that? I'm not sure you can use it directly as a speaker. It has a speaker built in so you can play music from your prime account, pandora, spotify, etc. I know you can connect the Dot to an external speaker to boost the sound of the Dot but I'm not sure you can connect an outside source to it to use the Dot as a speaker (meaning that I am not sure you can connect your iPad to it and hear the iPad through the Dot) Save
