I should have upgraded to at least get it - ordered on the 11th, I thought the original delivery anticipated date was this Saturday the 15th, have been looking all day for it. Looked again and now it's saying Saturday the 22nd by end of day. I could kick myself for not taking a screen shot of the tracking form that said that date because I'm not sure if I just remembered it wrong or it was actually changed. Anyway, my sister can put a small priority mail box in the mail and I get it 3 days later for 6.80 from Texas to Maine (roughly same size of the value size box of Project life cards) meanwhile I spent 9.00 for it to go from Utah to Maine in 11 days using "Fedex SmartPost" which is what the standard shipping was. Never, never, never using Smart Post again when ordering something from Project Life! Disappointing to say the very least since I thought I was getting it today, have been looking forward to it all day.

I don't know what Smart Post is, but I ordered a big ol' Carl paper cutter from Amazon on Wednesday night and it was on my doorstep by Friday afternoon. It is funny how fast things can arrive (Prime).

It is funny how fast things can arrive (Prime). Smart Post is something I don't know how or why businesses use it, I'm guessing it's cheaper. But I am recalling a few other times now that I remember that I ordered something that they used that. I don't recall in every case whether it was specified that was the way it would ship. I thought it said standard shipping, so that's what I picked as I didn't want to pay more than the 9.00 (I didn't want to pay THAT but I really wanted that kit). In hindsight I should have looked for the free shipping minimum and ordered more instead of paying the 9.00 if I was going to have to wait this long, as I typically don't pay for shipping by doing that. My fault totally. I better use it - Funny story as I was going through Christmas themed craft things I realized I already had a Project Life Christmas kit (Christmas wishes) so the plus side is I can start doing things with that while I'm waiting for the other.

SmartPost is the spawn of the devil. It's a huge pain in the neck...Oh wait I guess that doesn't really tell you what it is. :-)
SmartPost is a shipping method used by courier services and the US post office. The item will be shipped via courier (UPS etc) to the US post office who then delivers it to you....usually 31286327 days after the delivery date quoted in your shipping confirmation email.
In my experience SmartPost adds a minimum of two days to your shipping. I don't know if there's an official number of days but in my experience it's usually two days.
I don't know why companies use this method. I hate it and haven't met anyone who likes it. I'm guessing it's somehow cheaper for the company.

Thanks justkat for explaining smart post hahaha you totally nailed it! I'm sure it's cheaper for businesses in some ways but I can't say in this case how it's saving money based on my sisters and my example when we send stuff to each other. But Utah smart post is definitely devil spawn for sure!! I'll have to look and see if that was specified under shipping method as I don't recall if it was - or really anytime I've had the surprise of getting things shipped that come that way.

I absolutely detest SmartPost. It seems like this is a cheaper method and your package will languish in a holding area (purgatory for packages) with other cursed SmartPost items to be put onto a truck possibly going somewhere at some point , probably in the very distant future, whenever the employees dang well feel like it. Then it will meander about the country leisurely for several more days, possibly stopping to be placed into another SmartPost package purgatory until THOSE employees put it on another truck. Someday it will arrive to it's destination. (probably)

That is a minor thing for a trimmer that makes a nice, sharp cut.

I hate Smart Post, too. It's just too slow...whine. It generally only adds one or two days, but I want my package now!
It's a money saver because UPS or FedEx can drop all the packages for an area or zip code at one location, rather than all the individual locations. The USPS is going to all those locations anyway, so they make the delivery.
I've often wondered if my postal worker hates it, too.

Just becuase it's free shipping doesn't mean it's any faster. Companies I've purchased from use SmartPost when the shipping is free.

I finally bit the bullet and went Amazon prime. The week of the wedding I ordered several last minute items and didn't have to sweat it out. For roughly $10 a month, including the Amazon tv, it's beyond worth it.
Sorry you're stuck in smart post hell!

I'm not sure where you were shopping, but one of my first orders from BH's shop was sent that way. It said it would take a week to get to me (it shipped 6 hours driving distance from me so I thought that was ridiculous). The day after it shipped, it was in my city and I thought, 'see, that shipping time is completely inaccurate' and then it proceeded to spend 5 days going to the states surrounding me before ending up in my city again...so it ended up arriving a day early instead of 2 days later (next day in my city, turn over to PO and then come to me).
The next time I ordered, I prepared myself for the same slow shipping, but it came USPS Priority (and I think I ordered less, just barely making the free shipping threshold...both orders were things from her 50 and 60% off sections) and my only guess for this is because the zone shipping rate is probably similar to smart post so they changed for nearby locations after complaints. I wasn't in a hurry for my first order, but watching it say it was in my city and then keep going was annoying!!

Then I found the extra cutting mat in the same area as the extra blades. Sweet!

....usually 31286327 days after the delivery date quoted in your shipping confirmation email. Seriously hilarious! True though...we have a lot of shipments transferred to our PO using Smart Post. Sometimes it's normal and sometimes it takes longer.
