A friend recently joined Costco & is seeking shopping tips & product recommendations. Since our family has never had a warehouse membership, I have no first hand experience. Any advice & suggestions? TIA!

Their meat is really good quality. Always get a rotisserie chicken. Cereal, pop, canned vegetables are a good deal. We get paper plates, paper towels, Kleenex, napkins, laundry detergent, dishwasher tabs. Organic bananas are great- I don't regularly buy organic, and bananas are one of the things that the experts say you shouldn't buy organic since you aren't eating th peel, but the organic bananas at Costco just taste better. I also get berries, pears, sliced apples, cukes, broccoli, Butter is a great price.

We love the mango peach salsa. It always ends up in our cart.

Go hungry. LOL They almost always have samples.
Then, after you shop, eat at the snack bar!

There have been so many posts on this topic. I recommend a search. You will get more information than you ever need.

Household products seem to be the best deals to me. Cleaning supplies, paper towel, kitty litter. Food prices...I would say know your prices. I think their prices are good over all and if you need it now. There are a lot of things that they have a low price on but my grocery store has on sale regularly for less. Also, brand selection is limited if you're brand loyal with some things.

Pay close attention to the use by date on fresh meat. I have bought stuff that was only good for a day.

We buy so much from Costco ... especially coffee, toilet paper and cat litter I love this because it's sooooo true! When I need to go to Costco, I make a list and stick to it. I go right where I need to go, I don't browse aisles. When I take my Dad, we have to go down every single aisle. I will not bring my purse/wallet with me on those trips. It's locked in the trunk of my car or I'll buy a ton of stuff I "think" I need. I do need to make a Costco run but am hoping to hold off until around Christmas. We're freezer diving now and then I'll do a meat run to Costco.

I love the Healthy Choice fudge bars that they have there. Some Costco's have an organic version which is good too. They taste much different than the ones I found at Kroger. Other things I always get there are bananas, toilet paper, 97% fat-free ham, chicken breasts (love the way they're packaged), brauts, Lipton Teabags, & the large bag of Smart Ones breakfast roll-up thingys.

pasta salad, chicken pot pie and chocolate covered raisins. the raisins are HUGE and the chocolate is nice, milk chocolate - not the super-crappy cheap waxy stuff. mmm...

Know grocery store prices so you can comparison shop. I get better deals on meat at my local stores.
Prices in the Optical Dept are great. I was quoted about $400-500 after insurancefor frames and lenses (tri-focals, high rx, etc) and paid 1/2 that amount at Costco.
