We are going to Country Living Fair Friday @ Stone Mountain and plan to leave in the afternoon and head into perimeter to go to Homegoods 2625 Piedmont Rd NE, IKEA and Trader Joe's - 931 Monroe (they close at 10). My question is on a Friday afternoon aprx how much time to get back to Homegoods?
We have the option of spending the night, but really don't want to miss the Alabama vs Texas A & M game so would not get much shopping done Saturday morning before driving home (2 1/2 hours). We have been to these stores before, just don't have them near us. We have our lists ready for IKEA and Trader Joe's.
We are on CST so we do "gain" an hour going home. Thanks!!!

is the IKEA still downtown or did they build another one? My memory of it is you're going from a suburb (my ILs live near stone mountain) into downtown. Natives can weigh in, but my guess is you're going to hit significant traffic.

IKEA is still downtown. Heading inside the perimeter on a Friday afternoon from Stone Mountain, you won't be fighting rush hour - most of the traffic will be heading in the opposite direction to get OUT of Atlanta to the 'burbs. Having said that, downtown Atlanta traffic isn't really ever a picnic, even on a good day, so keep your Google Maps or Waze handy and running so it can let you know if there are any traffic issues you need to avoid.

Every time I drive into downtown Atlanta on Friday afternoon it takes me an extra 30 mins over what my GPS says.

Thanks Ladies, Google Maps gives 2 options; straight in on 78 or taking 285 around to 85/75. We are leaning towards 285 - 85/75, is that the best way?

Hwy 78 will only get you so far - basically it will take from Stn. Mtn. to 285, then you take 285 to 85 South.
Unbelievably, I find that Friday afternoon rush hour isn't as bad as other days. I think because a lot of people are off, telecommute or leave early on Friday. Generally, when I leave at 5 pm, I fly home on Friday - takes me 10 minutes but on other days, it takes an hour.
Depending on what time you leave Stone Mountain area, I would say it would take about 45 min to 1 hour to get to any of those places (depending on where you go first).
There is a Home Goods closer to Stone Mountain, if you want to look there to kill some time to allow traffic to die down - there are 2 not far from there - one is in Snellville (1679 Scenic Hwy) and one in Lawrenceville (4353 Lawrenceville Hwy).
