1. First, there is STILL the heat. 94 today. I'm going out of my ever-lovin' mind.
2. Then there are the seasonal allergies. The season (for me) lasts from early January to late December. Cedar, then mold, then grass, then mold, then oak, then mold, then ragweed, then more mold... Since I have loved in Texas, I have developed allergy induced asthma. I cough like an old man. I cannot breathe.
3. Finally--there are the fire ants. Spawn of Satan. I am allergic to them. Like full on anaphylactic shock if I get bit enough. A couple of weeks ago, I got a bite. Hurt BAD for days. But one bite won't kill me. It will, however, piss my histamines off so they're ready to go full force if it happens again. Well--last night, I got bit again. I got into my car and drove to the grocery store. And somewhere along the way, those little buttholes got my feet and ankles. My ankles swelled up huge--the biggest cankles you've ever seen. And I broke out in hives on my chest and scalp. Luckily, my throat did not swell up, so I did not have to use my epi pen (because I literally could not afford to replace it). 5 doses of Benadryl later--the rash is gone and the swelling has decreased (but still looks bad). I am still miserable. I did not see a mound. These ants must have been rogue. I could finally see the bites this afternoon-- 3 on my left foot, 2 on my right. If I get bit again in the near future--who knows what'll happen.
Texas-- why do you hate me?

I'd have to seriously consider moving, if I was you. Moving from IA to PA has surprisingly eased my ragweed allergies substantially. I used to get hives and asthma and couldn't wear my contacts if I didn't religiously take my Zyrtec and Flonase every day from the end of July until the first hard frost. Now, I do have to take Zyrtec for part of ragweed season, but I'm not miserable if I forget and actually haven't even needed anything for a few weeks.

Because you're voting for Hillary. LOL! You're probably absolutely right... But guess what--I'm voting for her anyway. So bring on the fire ants. I would rather go into anaphylactic shock didn't vote for Donald Trump,

Ugh......I feel you, Sister! The humidity, heat, weeds, critters, allergies, the traffic and craziness. Calgon, take me away! I have the same reaction to fire ants and besides Benadryl the ONLY thing that helps the itching and swelling is brown Listerine! I kid you not....I generously rub it on the bites as soon as I notice them and for some reason they don't itch as much! Might be worth a try. Cold front is forecasted for this weekend in the San Antonio area

I'm sorry. If it's any consolation this Texan is absolutely miserable from the ragweed. Horrible cough and chest congestion. It's a particularly bad year for it, I guess. I have never had it like this. Hang in there!! Last map I saw Texas is now purple so stay and vote!!

I'm over the heat.
I'm over the allergies.
I feel ya' on the fire ants. I haven't been bitten by one yet but considering the way that I react to mosquito bites and bees (an insect bite landed me an overnight stay in the cardiac department of the hospital), I can only imagine what it's going to be like. Thank goodness I already carry an Epi pen for bees. I hope your bites feel better soon.

Oh my gosh - YES! C'mon fall already. I went to DC in September (still hot) and Nebraska a couple weeks ago (just starting to cool down) trying to get a glimpse of autumn.
I'm ready for fall - NOW!

Front coming through on Wednesday! Sorry about the ants, though. Promises, promises. I'm so over summer and the weekly promises of a "cool front". This has been a particularly bad fall for me allergy wise. In order to be sure I have cooler weather this weekend, I am flying to Jackson Hole for a few days! DH just got there this evening and reports that it is currently 28 and snow everywhere. Good thing I'm picking up my coat from storage at Sakowitz tomorrow. My body is about to go into shock! Save

I'm laughing at your comment that goes along with your screen name, "Summer". hehehehe You should have picked "Autumn" or "Winter". I live near DC so I have suffered summers for years. This summer, though, seemed to be especially awful. We're finally in fall now! Except we're having a mini-heat wave this week, but still we know it will end in a few days and even that isn't as bad as it was in July and August. And September. I could NOT deal with what the OP described. ugh. I had friends who moved to Texas years ago and she complained every year about how awful the cedar was. I'd never heard of cedar allergies since the only cedar we have around here is in closets where people put it against moths. lol.

Front coming through on Wednesday! Sorry about the ants, though. It's going to be in the 70s for TWO days (according to my phone) and then back up to 86 by next Wednesday. A cruel joke if you ask me. But thanks for at least trying to make me feel better.

I am so sorry! I know exactly how you feel. Cedar always KILLED me. But Flonase became my best friend. It worked better than Zyrtec, Singulair, etc. We also moved after 14 years. I couldn't stand the heat, etc., anymore either. We were very blessed in TX but I needed to be back with the trees and four seasons in the Carolinas. Hope you get relief soon!

First, I am really sorry that you are suffering so much. I hope you feel better soon! I would go to your doctor and get an EPI pen just in case it happens again. That many bites at one time, makes me wonder if you stepped on their home. But your description made me laugh! I know you didn't mean to be funny; but you are funny. How have I missed this about you in the past?

I was sweating buckets just sitting in the chair watching. After I asked her how it was and she was like "Eh it was fine" (we've lived here since she was 5, so she's practically a native). I'm also suffering from allergy issues somewhat for the first time in a couple years. Sorry about the asthma and the ant bites. Good news is it's supposed to cool off later this week. Hopefully it lasts longer than a day or two!

I think I would be seriously looking to move out of Texas if I were you. I couldn't deal with having a year long allergy season. Do you get shots to help manage your allergies? I hear you on the fire ants! Mer had them in FL, and they absolutely were the devil! I don't react to them like you do, but oh man do I remember the itching!

Katybee--I highly recommend Flonase nasal spray throughout the allergy season. It can be taken with Zyrtec as needed, but you need to start on the Flonase right at the beginning of allergy season.
I always have trouble with my allergies anytime I am in a new place--especially where there are lots of trees.

I actually snarled at some man holding the door for me today when he said "much cooler, eh?" Eff no, it's not much cooler. It's 90 fucking degrees and the sun is relentless.
I love Texas. Truly I do, but there is no way that a woman who has hot flashes should have to endure the summer heat from April until November. No freaking way.

Fire ants: IMMEDIATELY after getting bitten by those dreaded creatures--Use straight Clorox on a cotton pad and wipe the area. It will remove most of the toxin and stop the burning and the pus pustule from forming.
