I'm watching a bit of her speech today in Arizona and she is amazing once again. I'm trying to think of anyone on the Republican side that comes close to how powerful and engaging a speaker she is and drawing a blank.

I don't know about the Republican side, but her husband is pretty good not as good as her, but pretty good. I'll miss them both.

Condoleeza Rice maybe. But I'm not sure there are many on the Democrat side who equal her. Plenty of good speakers in both parties but not many who have the combination of grace and passion and speaking ability and presence...

I don't believe so. At least, I haven't seen anybody like her.

I doubt you could have gotten any of those women above to go out and stump for trump.

I know a lot of people think he's a good speaker, but I have just never liked his style. Way too many long pauses when he speaks and those pauses drive me crazy. I don't think he holds a candle to how she speaks. Everything about her speaking is more powerful and nicer to listen to

Betty Ford was certainly an inspiring woman, but I don't recall being amazed at her speaking style. Elizabeth Dole or Barbara Bush should definitely be on the shortlist. I was really looking for a contemporary equivalent and do think Condoleezza Rice is probably the closest .

I've always been a huge fan of Barbara Bush and Elizabeth Dole, and I am a serious tree-hugging liberal socialist.

Barbara Bush,Elizabeth Dole, Condaleeza Rice were giving speeches like Michelle Obama. Also remember Michelle had high profile jobs at the University of Chicago and Chicago Mayors office. I read a book that said that she's been pushing Barack to speak out on the black lives matter campaign.
eta did you see Sarah Palin was at the debate last night? What does she do for money these days?

Elizabeth Dole and Barbara Bush. I have met both in person and these are the classiest and most intelligent, world-wise yet humble and America loving, role-model, and inspiring women I can think of.
The only other woman in American history that I think has such impeccable honor is Eleanor Roosevelt! But she is not alive today.

I don't think there is a "current" equivalent to Michelle Obama in the Republican party.

He always sounds like he's waiting for his next line to be fed to him. It's not that I think he is, there's no conspiracy theory there, just that's what comes to mind with the constant stream of long pauses.

In interviews, he always sounds like he's really thinking about what to say and how to say it. It's exactly the opposite of Trump. I don't know any current Republican women who have the poise and charisma of Michelle Obama. Heck, I can think of very few women like her, period. I always liked Laura Bush though.

I don't find her style compelling. President Obama's pauses may have to do with his time as a professor.

8 years ago Michelle Obama lacked the polish and "equivalent" she has after 8 years of being coached on how to act, dress and speak. People wondered back then if it would even be possible to polish her into a decent first lady.
So, no, there likely isn't too many potential first ladies that live up to an experienced second term first lady.

Michelle Obama was a good speaker 8 years ago, but I agree there's really no way to compare both her resources as well the sheer amount of experience from the last 8 years. I' imagine she'll join the speech circuit in February - I imagine she'll be as big a draw as President Obama.

I was actually surprised to hear from my son's speech therapist that the pausing is a good way to work through a stutter. I'm certainly not suggesting the President has a stutter, but she had my son practice pauses to work through his stuttering as a strategy. Personally, I don't mind the pauses...it gives me a chance to process and reflect a bit on what's already been said.

Maybe Rush & Fox. I don't think you can get much more insulting than that. I was looking for potential presidents not potential first ladies.

Every day it seems Michelle Obama, our incredible First Lady, has delivered a wonderful speech, I mean that she's been on the campaign trail.
