I'm hoping some of my experienced knitting/crocheting Peas can give me some advice. I have read good things about Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn and Cotton. I want to start a full size blanket for my ds and am looking for a new brand of yarn. I've used Caron for a large blanket and swore I wouldn't use it again. Red Heart is too scratchy for my taste. I've used others that split too much. I liked the Style craft that came in the kit for the Cosy stripe blanket from Wool Warehouse but don't really want to order yarn. It's about an hour drive to Hobby Lobby so I'd like some advice before I make the trip!
Thanks!

Patter says she uses this and really likes it. I picked up some fun colors to make a lap throw for me. I haven't started working with it yet so other than Patter's word, that's all I am going on.

lately, my two go-to yarns are wool-ease thick and quick and Bernat softee chunky
I like a "beefier" yarn to work with and these fit the bill for me. I am particularly in love with the wool-ease hudson bay color
I also recently picked up some Bernat home dec yarn-it's very different as it's almost a tshirt material but it's fun

I have used it an I like it. I am working on a granny square afghan (and I use the word working on veeeeeery lightly!!). I like the weight and the feel. I should be done in the next 2 - 3 years at the rate I am going.

Another question (thanks for your responses!). Patter and anyone else....is there much difference between the yarn and the cotton? I just checked their ad and the cotton is on sale. I also found out there's a store 30 minutes closer!

You know why it's named that, right? Because the whole time you're working with it you keep saying to yourself "oooooo I LOVE this yarn!!"
I have used the cotton a couple of times, and it's dreamy to work with. Will be more expensive to get the same amount as the acrylic though. The acrylic comes in so many colors too.
LOVE IT!

I have never worked with the cotton but the acrylic is awesome. I'm working on a granny right now with it.

I've been wanting to try it for a small blanket project after reading good things about it. I'll be watching this thread with interest.
I finished a blanket for DD last month. I used Lion Vanna's Choice. It's not a yarn I would have normally picked, but there was a Lion store in my area closing and it was really inexpensive. I hated it the entire time I was crocheting with it, but once I washed the finished blanket, it was so incredibly soft. It didn't pill at all with the first wash but I'll be interested to see what it does over time.
I'm making DS a blanket now with a yarn I found at Joann's--Big Twist Sincerely. It's working up nicely and feels very similar to the Vanna's Choice while I'm crocheting so I'm hoping it softens when I wash the finished blanket.

I think "I Love This Yarn" is one of the best value priced yarn overall. The acrylic isn't head and shoulders above other yarns but it doesn't have that squeaky feel that a lot of less expensive acrylics have. And the color selection is great. It's not splitty (I have a hard time with Vanna's Choice splitting).
The cotton is significantly different in texture from acrylic, so it just depends on the type of feel you want for the project. However, I will say that I Love This Cotton is head and shoulders above other 100% cotton yarns (Peaches and Cream, Cream and Sugar, etc.). It's SO soft and easy to work with. It doesn't shrink even a fraction of what the other cottons shrink and it remains nice looking washing after washing. I've made hundreds of dishcloths and it's the only cotton I'll use now. I also made a baby sweater from the cotton because I didn't want acrylic and you never know if a baby is going to be sensitive to wool. It turned out great and so soft. Cotton can often make your hands tired when knitting because it doesn't have the same stretch as other fibers, but I never feel that with I Love This Cotton.
There is also an I Love This Wool, but I haven't knitted with that, but based on my experience with the rest of the line, I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Thanks so much for the input!! I will probably go with the acrylic as the cost for cotton would be more than double. burningfeather I despise the stiff cotton yarns and sadly have several balls of it I bought for a project and will probably end up donating.

Not because of how it works up but how it feels. I have made many, many blankets with it and all of them are so soft and cozy. I wish she would add more colors to this line.

I've used both and love them both......the cotton is very soft, easy to crochet and washes well. The acrylic works up quickly because it is thicker and uses a larger hook. Great value as well and great color selection. I just saw the other day that they also make the acrylic in a smaller skein, smaller ply but I don't think it has as much color selection.

KelleeM, these are both from I Love This Yarn. The rainbow one is acrylic and the pastel one is cotton. This brand has the softest cotton I've found so far. The acrylic is really easy to work with and wasn't splitty like many other brands (I don't like the Stylecraft but didn't discover that until after I had purchased tons of it). I highly recommend this yarn.Attachments:

I knew I could count on you all! I'll be going to Hobby Lobby in the morning and hope to get the acrylic. The next challenge is to decide on a pattern and colors!

Now I want to crochet this morning. I was awake from midnight until 2:00 crocheting and listening to an audio book. I had gone to bed early and woke up with my stomach growling! I'm working on a very small corner to corner blanket (first time doing c to c) but I'm excited to start a bigger project!

Sounds like you had a nice time though!

it's my 'go to' yarn
not expensive - not scratchy
huge color selection
and it feels good between my fingers and makes a nice, soft, pliable blanket
(says the girl that bought 15 skeins last night)

A friend of mine uses "I love this yarn" almost exclusively for most of her projects. I don't use a lot of acrylic yarn so I don't have a preference (I do more sock knitting than anything else).

I just got home from Hobby Lobby where I was blown away by the colors and feel of I Love This Yarn! I bought 15 skeins for the blanket for ds and 2 skeins of I Love This Cotton to make some dishcloths. I had only ever been in a Hobby Lobby once and that was to look at scrapbooking stuff 5 years ago in Florida. I left with nothing! This store opened about 6 weeks ago and was awesome! The bonus was the Aldi a bit down the road that I checked out...We never had those here in New England before either!
