Hi knitting and crocheting Peas, What is the fibre content of Cake yarn? Michaels is having some sort of deal on it tomorrow (or something??) and I would like to get some. My crocheting is getting better! Is there wool in it and how much?
Thanks, Elannah

How itchy is the fibre itself? Is it pretty soft? I want to make something for my bed. They have so many pretty colours choosing will be hard. I think I am going to go with the blue, though!

Not at all itchy to me and I have an issue with certain wools driving me crazy. I am making a blanket with it right now with Faerie Cake which is the shades of aqua blue. I posted a pic in one of the old yarn threads of the start of it if you want to hunt back and see how it works up. I love the feel of it. The blanket is done in a double crochet and it's very nice and squishy! I also want to see how it felt when knit, so I have a little swatch I'm working up just in a garter stitch. I like the feel.
Not sure how it's going to wash though. It's supposed to be hand washed and I can't see myself hand-washing a 60 inch round crocheted throw. If that's a concern for you, search the Yarnspirations site. Pretty sure it was there I saw a post about a machine wash test someone did with a piece they made with it.
I will also say this--I'm pretty anal and the abrupt color change bothers me a bit. But there are patterns all over the internet that people have made/used that minimize the abruptness. One crocheter I follow on Instagram actually cut the yarn sections to make an ombre shawl. Some of the comments were crazy--like she violated the whole purpose of the yarn by cutting it. I can't imagine getting bent about what someone else does with their project.

I don't recall whether they put it in the dryer or air dried. SaveSave

I'm really excited to try this! I typically use knitpicks and cascade or blue sky alpaca.
Our store had it out this week but sold nearly all out. I'm not sure if it was on the B2G1 sale? I thought it wasn't supposed to launch until this weekend?
Anyway they told me all the stores are running out and trying to get special orders - so grab what you need!

It is very soft, but I would save money and buy colors you like. Then make you own cake.

I've got two projects in line ahead of it.

I heard that Joanne's and possibly AC Moore have the new Sweet Roll yarn by Premier Yarn. It is Aran weight, looks like the CaronCake, but Sweet Roll is 100% acrylic. I haven't used either so not sure how the Sweet Roll compares with the abrupt color changes and softness, but it is acrylic so should be machine wash and dry.

I worked today and could not get to Michaels until 8:00. Caron cakes were all gone. I did not need another project or another expense so really it worked out for the best but for a quick minute I was disappointed.

I didn't go today either. I was up until 3 am as we had a 21st birthday party for DS last night and there was lots of noise and fun going on. I didn't want to get dressed and leave the house today. I should have but didn't. I will try tomorrow maybe?

I got an email from Michaels that said the Caron Cakes were back in. What's special about that yarn? I went to there today and it was packed, they had all the registers going and there was still a line.
