So - you want to apply for a job - great! You send your resume in via the automatic online application - great! You are scheduled to interview and the recruiter wants to send an email to verify - great! Your email address is (this is an example, not real name) Michellecarolinanewberg0090091@gmail.com Ok, so it looks like you put your whole name as your email address as well as some cryptic numbers. So, recruiter attempts to send you an email and low and behold misspells your email address. Sigh, silly recruiter, tries again and a 3rd time and finally sends it. Hooray, you receive! You interview, you score! Company wants to send you an offer through their automated onboarding program which requires the HR person to manually type in your email address. Yep, if you've been following along, you realize that the HR person did mistakenly type in the email address so the offer never went out. So - having to send it out again today. This time, I advised all involved, type it perfectly in a word document - save it for the future - so you can cut and paste going forward. Bigger issue isn't the mistakenly spelling it. Why the hell have such a freaking long email address when you are applying for work and know that everything is practically done by email? Ok, vent over. Hope this is all the drama for the week - on to the weekend!

My guess is the persons name was already an email address and the host either suggested others or the numbers have a meaning so she could remember them

Maybe? But her real middle name and last name are very unique, I would not think there were a lot, if any with that name combination.
She told our HR staff member that people always mess up her email address. Well, that might be a hint to maybe get another email account that is a bit easier for people to use when responding to you?
Sorry - it was just an irritation our team had today.

Also, don't use sexibootie69@yahoo.com or something like that! I've seen some doozies! And we are supposed to take you seriously?!

OMG yes, I had a Doctor, an actual Doctor send his CV and his email address contained the word - hotlove within it. Hmmm..not sure I want my potential Doctor treating my patients to have hotlove in his CV - you realize that this is representing your professional work and education history?

Too sexy, too stupid or too complicated to write, all need to be thought out before representing yourself in some sort of professional manner with your email.

Also, don't use sexibootie69@yahoo.com or something like that! I've seen some doozies! And we are supposed to take you seriously?! A friend of mine was interviewing for office positions and one girl sent through her resume: hot4s.ex@gmail.com Yes, with the strategically placed dot in s.ex Needless to say, her application went in the bin. It made me wonder whether it was possibly a deliberate ploy to avoid actually getting a job. If you're on the dole (ie. welfare or whatever it's called in the US) you have to apply for a certain number of jobs each month in order to continue getting dole payments. I have heard of people sabotaging their interview so they don't get the job. Or in one case I heard about, the person was offered a part time job but declined, telling the interviewer that she didn't actually want a job, she just had to apply for jobs so she could continue to get the dole. I prefer to believe it was a deliberate ploy with hot4s.ex girl, rather than accepting anyone could be that stupid.

LOL!! I would so have left a message! In a very professional voice using extremely proper grammar, state who you were and why you were calling. Then end with I'm sorry, but I realize you would not be a desirable candidate after all. In your haughtiest voice.

Hee hee. I have one with my name, but when they (cell phone company) set it up, they spelled my name wrong. I can't use it for professional stuff because they way they misspelled it looks like I'm an idiot. Lol. So, I use my very first email, on a Hotmail account, and that one isn't much better, but it works better for me.

Our local college has the WORST EMAIL addresses ever. It's like sc19752b1213@xxxx.edu
WHY??? I understand having to use it within the university system, but why make us in the real world use it???

Amen. I see lots of emails that are hard to type - random letters/numbers/long and inappropriate emails.
One time at work I asked someone over the phone if I could send her a document and she said yes, please send it to her WORK email which was nastygyrls@____ ..... I guess I can figure out the type of work you do??? :/

Stuff like this actually happens. I've had customers apply for jobs they could never do, not show up for interviews, etc. They even falsify their job search logs that are turned in to me. The people who come into the program wanting to find work get a job very quickly. Most of my caseload just try to play the system. Unfortunately, I'm their case manager and I go through everything with a fine tooth comb. Very few of their trick s get past me and I sanction their checks. I'm not well liked. LOL

Sorry - it was just an irritation our team had today. Why would she want her gmail to be her real middle and last name? I'd expect a cut and paste would eliminate any problems. I'd never use my middle and last name in my gmail, they're very unique and I bet I'm the only person in the world with my full name. Not ever using that for employment correspondence.

Believe it or not our email address is a combination of mine and dh's first names and our Puerto Rican last name and that combo was taken when we signed up for it 19 yrs ago! We had to put a . before our last name so if people forget that period/dot our stuff goes to that other person. And we've had this email address for so long we are not changing it now

My last HR encounter was not a good one. First, they assumed I didn't want the interview because I didn't reply to the email. After a phone call where I confirmed I did not get the email, she resent it. I did not get it. Called, walked her through my email... she says, "Oh... your middle initial isn't a 1." I said, what? My email is obviously a first.middle initial.lastname#@.... My personal email is identical to my work email except a different @.com. Because our greater organization is the same, the woman should have been able to figure out that it is a middle initial. We are regulated to that email format after all!
Fast forward... I get the job. She can't send the offer because my "email just won't go through." You guessed it, my middle initial was once again a number. She was by far the WORST HR person I've ever dealt with. So very unprofessional and I almost turned down the job because of her incompetence which was greater than thinking someone's middle initial is a number.

I recently had to call people for interviews and one of the people I had to call instead of having a ring tone had a really loud, obnoxious heavy metal song play instead. The worst part was that she had no voicemail either so I had to call her several times to actually get through to her. I thought that was obnoxious.

Having worked for a non-profit, I have seen some dozy email addresses. It is amazing that some people don't realize that their email address is an extension of themselves. My friend works in a public school and she too is amazed at some of the email addresses that parents provide.

I'm confused about why anyone is manually typing email addresses. If a person applies online why is there this redundancy? Honestly curious.

I hate my work emails address but its the same for everyone
First.Last@dss.county name spelled out.gov
Of course, we have a very long county name that is always misspelled, lol. My last name is spelled outside the norm and not how you pronounce it so I am always hearing that my emails are bouncing back to the sender
