This may be the world's stupidest question, but I have an iphone 4. I have never really been one to buy the latest and greatest, and my phone has always worked just fine, so I have not really seen a need to buy a new one. But recently, phone calls are going straight to voice mail with no notification, texts are not coming in at all, imessage is constantly 'waiting for activation' (and all texts are going out as 'green' instead of blue and some are not being received) and some of the apps seem to be slowing down the whole thing. My son said that he has sent two texts, and called three times in the last 36 hours or so and I did not receive the texts and the calls went straight to voice mail without the phone ringing and there was no notification that the call had even come through. I have received a couple of calls, but at least two of them just...stopped. It wasn't a 'failed' call, it just stopped in the middle of a conversation and I couldn't tap the red hang up button. Do you think this a function of the phone being old enough that it isn't playing nice with all the new technology since the iphone 7s have come out? I am particularly concerned about the phone calls and texts as my cell phone is my main contact number. I don't particularly want to get a new phone if I don't have to. Right now, I have ATT and in order to get a new phone I can't get the old deals where you got the subsidized phone, I have to sign up for the next program and it changes my plan significantly. So what do you think (beyond this being a stupid question? )

Unfortunately, yes, these are signs your phone is dying. That phone technology is probably five or six years old, and at some point it can't handle the new technology. Also, I *think* the most recent updates only go back as far as the 4S, so you would start having issues with apps, too.
You don't have to get the latest and greatest. Check with friends or Craigslist and look into a 5S or higher. Just make sure it's compatible with your carrier. It would be much cheaper than new.

Have you accidentally switched up n do not disturb? If you have there should be a crescent moon showing on the top off the screen
