Is making a weird grinding noise when I try to wake it up?
I turned it off completely when I tried to wake it up and it started with the awful grinding noise. When I tried to start it up it did it again, so I turned it off and have left it alone since.
Is this the end? It's not a new laptop. Is it worth taking it in to have some one look at it?

When mine did that, my IT guy at work told me the fan was probably clogged with dust. He suggested I get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the fan area. And it worked!
Of course there is always that possibility that it blows some more dust into the fan, instead of out of it.

maybe you need a new battery. My laptop was doing weird things when the battery was getting old. Replace it, and good as new.

When my old one started making those noises, the hard drive died less than two months later. If I were you, I'd make sure everything important is backed up NOW. I had always owned Macs before that and never had one die on me, so I was totally unaware and unprepared for that. Luckily I was able to recover my files, but it cost me $125 and a week of being very stressed out waiting.
