Classes for St. Louis are posted. CK is not doing any classes themselves that I see. That's disappointing since I usually only sign up for theirs and Queen & co. Also, no daytime crop on Friday or Saturday. Weird. The Friday crop was pretty full last year.
Anyone know of any crops in the area or at the hotels?

I went to CKC in Tacoma in November and talked to Megan Hoepner regarding the schedule for next year.
She said that the company that owns CK has a new CEO who made the decision to cut the number to 4 conventions for 2017. Apparently, he chose the locations and will use these 2017 CKC's to re-evaluate how to bring in more vendors/customers.
All the staff that we talked with seemed confident that things will be back on track for 2018, but I'm not so sure. I hope so, though.

I have been seeing the writing on the wall for the past few years as vendors become less and less. At one point in time we had 2 CKC's in Arizona, one in Mesa in April and one in Phoenix in September. Then they cut it down to just Phoenix. And then that one got smaller and smaller. So sad that now we dont even have one!!

Part of the problem with vendors dwindling is that some of the shows were the same weekend as the sb expo in a different location. Many of the vendors chose the expo over ckc, esp. if the location was closer to home for them. Hopefully they plan a little better in the future. I personally like the expo better - much more fun atmosphere, but I will continue to go to both as long as they have them!

I'm happy the Lancaster convention is earlier. The previous dates always coincided with my grandson's birthday.

There is a daytime crop Thursday at CKC St. Louis. I don't remember day time ones on Friday and Saturday, only the evening ones. My roommate cropped in our hotel lobby last year during the day. We stay at the Fairfield Inn. It may be booked now though. I had trouble last week booking an accessible room directly through the hotel for the convention. Had to do it online.

I'm also glad to see "St. Louis " is still on the list. Why they call it st.louis when it's really in Collinsville which is in another state. They flunked geography in school. Anyway I'm happy to see they are coming here. I see echo park has a booth there.

Really disappointed if Creating keepsakes does not do any classes. Those are the only classes I like to take. Occasionally if there is a manufacturer I'll take those classes also.
I went to Manchester NH, Lancaster, and Hartford CT last year. At Hartford when I picked up my tickets they literally had only a small box about 6 x8 inches of tickets for people. That is how few people attended that show. It was so empty. I only went to that one for the day and only took one class (by CK and it was great).
Lancaster is always well attended. I go for 3 days, Thursday through Saturday. I wonder if there will be enough to do for 3 days this year without good classes that I like (CK).

My guess is that people know where St. Louis is. People wouldn't know where Collinsville, IL is and probably wouldn't look it up. Also, the Collinsville Convention Center would probably be cheaper than convention facilities in St. Louis itself. The convention center is also a straight shot to the airport for vendors who fly in.
Personally I like it in Collinsville since I drive from southern Indiana.
I'll have to check out Echo Park. I don't think they have been to the St. Louis convention before.

I finally remembered to check out the dates for 2017 - and I am so disappointed to see that they aren't coming to Portland this year. I am also sad to see that it is only four shows and CK isn't teaching. I have been going to Portland every year since 2003 - with the exception of the year that my son was born the week prior to the convention I remember the hey day when Allie Edwards, Teresa Collin, and other scrapbook celebrities would come to teach classes. I have also seen the changes as the industry and the popularity has changes over the years. I have also been told how expensive the both space was and how slow they were at paying those who taught courses. So I have to honestly say I am not surprised - but I am sad. It was the one weekend a year that I would make sure that I blocked out some me time. Hopefully things will change for 2018 but I have a feeling the won't but I will try to remain optimistic.

Looked at the classes at CKC St. Louis today. Disappointed in the offerings. Its seems like a third of the classes are for cards. Guess I'll be taking plenty of things to work on.

I was surprised they stopped doing Salt Lake several years ago. It's where CK started and several SB companies started as well. The Scrapbook Expo USA has now become the Let's Create Expo and I think I might have to go this year and stock up!

This makes me so sad. It used to be I had to really pare down the classes I was going to take because there just wasn't time to take all that I wanted, even over the 3 days they were open. Now, between the 3 shows in Texas (CKC, GASC and Expo) I only see 1 or 2 classes I would be interested in.
So, if I only go to shop is Expo or GASC better these days?

I'm getting ready to sign up for classes this weekend. I just got my vacation day granted by the boss.

I'm signing on on the mini album classes and there is a class that is making shaker cards and anther one that's making acrylic cards. Those are some things I haven't done before. There wasn't any photos so I contacted the instructors to see where they projects are posted. I was able to see one and the other one hadn't designed it but told me what paper line she was using so I looked it up and thought it looked cute. I'm signing up for that one. I think I'll sign up for a crop. I've never done one. In fact I've never done a crop anywhere. . Is it worth the money? Which night is best?

I wonder why they cancelled. I hope they have their both still. They are selling quick quite paper that I wanted but didn't want to buy off of their website. I hate paying shipping.

Aw, man. I missed this thread originally. I have been going to CKC for years--I went to the one in Charlotte when I lived in SC, and I have been going to the one here in Seattle (ok, a little outside of Seattle--they had it in Bellevue for years and recently moved it to Tacoma). I would even take trips to Portland to coincide with the show there. I guess this is the end of an era.
I'm glad the knitting and sewing industries are still able to support conventions here. I started all three hobbies around the same time in the late 1990s, and it has been so surprising to me to watch the scrapbooking stores and magazines and now I suppose conventions all fold.

I'm taking the Thursday night techniques class and Sand Between Your Toes! on Friday. This is the least number of classes I have taken in 10 years of going to CKC St. Louis. I'll take things to work on in the hotel.

Wow. I'm surprised they sold out of the Thursday Night Techniques class so fast. That should tell CK something.
I have taken that class at least two other times. It is my favorite class. Each time about a dozen new techniques are taught. I usually don't do the projects that they have for the class. Instead I prefer to take notes and brainstorm projects that I can use the new techniques on. I also like taking the product included in the class and using it in other ways.
