Since eating healthier, I can tell when my body needs protein or veggies/fruits or water. I try to listen and eat what it needs. I'm on some medication and can't have dairy. Guess what I'm craving? Greek yogurt, feta cheese, caprese salad with fresh mozzarella...

My body falls flat on its face if it doesn't have pizza, or chips or cheese. If I give my body lettuce and veggies, it refuses to move. Mummmmm maybe it refuses to move because it's so full of junk! OH AND IT NEEDS CRUMPETS!!!! It must have crumpets!!!!!

I've had Crohn's disease for over 30 years and have malabsorption issues. I struggle every day with trying to gain and keep weight on. I crave a wide variety of things but I can definitely tell when my body needs protein and water. I rarely crave veggies but when I do I make sure I give in to those cravings.

It is amazing when you eat clean and listen your body will tell you right away what it needs and if you eat something that you have a sensitivity to or is full of chemical crap you notice it right away. I try to eat a rainbow of fruit and vegetables every day with moderate amounts of protein.
I still like my desserts! I have been trying gluten free, vegan and Paleo recipes which are wonderful.

There has been some cutting edge research done by a pediatric gastroenterologist at Mass General Hospital, he is also affiliated with Harvard University. His research was for celiac disease and focuses on a particular gene. What was interesting is that the research connects other autoimmune conditions including Crohn's, Hashi's, MS as well as others have a connection to gluten. If you are interested the doc's name is Alessio Fasano and there is a YouTube presentation he gives about his research. A really good friend of mine has Crohn's and she is having some issues right now. Her doctor suggested she gives up the gluten/grains and eat a Mediterranean based diet. I have been gluten free since February and I am hoping next year when my doc does bloodwork that my thyroid antibodies decrease.

My body craves breakfast lunch and dinner only but I tell it to be quiet and make room for snacks too. I try not to eat bad snacks but cookies and ice cream sneak in all the time.

Because of all the surgeries and complications over the years I'm also dealing with mega colon and a few other things as well. For me it's usually not what I eat but rather that I do eat. I do much better when I'm on IV nutrition but it's horribly expensive and needs to be run 10-12 a day. I'm not ready to be that tied down so I struggle with it. One of my DD's is an RN and the other is a Nurse Practitioner and they've both wondered about going gluten free. I've toyed with the idea but just haven't taken the step yet.

My body needs to quit talking to me. I doubt that it "needs" sangria, double stuff oreos and pizza.

Yes, this really does happen. Since I've been eating clean and switched to being a vegan in February I've been having all sorts of cravings.
First it was broccoli. I couldn't get enough of it. I'd it it every day. Then it was spinach. That went on for 3 weeks. I'd mix up a huge bowl of raw spinach with a salad dressing and have it every night. Lately it's been cherries. Although I LOVE cherries.
Also two weeks ago although I'm supposed to be vegan my body was crying out LOUD for eggs. So I broke the rules a little bit and now eat two eggs every morning on whole grain bread instead of the peanut butter with banana I was eating. I dropped 8 lbs doing that and my body is much better satisfied. I guess I really needed the protein.
Once you switch to clean eating and get off the processed foods, your body will stop asking for the junk because you won't be addicted to it anymore. I really believe this. Although I do get huge cravings for chocolate due to hormone fluctuations going on with my menopause on some nights. I just make sure it's healthy chocolate and try to stop at a little bit.
