the freaking bathroom door?! Cause if they do, I can't find them.
Or are the bottoms of my doors just lower than normal?

hmm...I never put a bathroom rug close enough to a door? aren't they usually around the toilet, or by the tub/shower?

Ugh! Having this same problem! I want to put a bathmat on the floor where you step out from the shower but because of where the bathroom door is I can't use anything but a towel... And not even a fluffy one lol

Mine rubs but you can get it closed. My gripe is I bought decorative towels and rugs to match for my bathroom and now I need to replace the rug and the color is no longer available. I look in Kohl's every time I am in that store and no forest green.

Is this in a really small bathroom?
Because I've never had a rug close enough to the door for it to be an issue.

I've gotten rugs at Costco and they work fine. Hope this helps.

You can shorten your door. Take it off the hinges and cut off 1/2" with a circular saw. Even hollow core doors have several inches of solid wood along the bottom so you can adjust them for the height you need. When we replaced our sheet vinyl floor with a tile one we had to cut down the door. We did it high enough that it will go over a rug.

Yes, old house, small bathrooms.
I'll look at Costco next time I'm there.

I've also never had a rug that close to the door to be a problem.

I do in one bathroom, and it drives me crazy. The other bathroom the door doesn't seem to hang so low. Our house isn't that old, it is just the layout and the fact I want a rug by the sink. I can't think of any house that I have been in that wouldn't be a problem. My aunt has a ginormous bathroom, but her door is near the counter and if it didn't open out a rug might hinder the door opening. What is the layout of a bathroom where that wouldn't be a potential problem? Seems like there would have to be a lot of dead space.

We had to shave down one of our doors. The rug wasn't even that high.

I don't have a problem in the bathroom - the ones I get at Target (cheapie ones) go under the door just fine. I have an issue with my front door. So annoying.

It just seems like this kind of thing should be standardized, yanno? Like clothes hangers. They're all the same size, so closet doors accommodate for that. Doors should be the same height off the ground.

Ohhhh I feel your pain. Our bathroom is tiny and the door is right in front of the shower, I have yet to find a solution to this problem unless I shave the door and in a rental I am not going to bother. I just move it once I am done to in front of the bathtub.

We have one from Ikea. Don't remember the name though. We have it outside our shower and have a door right next to it with no issues. It has small squares recessed in the weave pattern. I want to say it was only $5? Not more than $10

I have a tiny bathroom and use a woven place mat from Walmart...I also never close my bathroom. But I live alone, so that's not an issue.

Your door is probably really low. We're military and have lived in a lot of houses. DH usually needs to fix at least one door because it won't go over a rug.
And you would think that closet depth would be standard, but it's not. I remember one coat closet that the coats had to hand diagonal in the closet. And we have a closet in our current house that won't fit hangers at all. Luckily, it's right next to a big walk in closet. But what the heck? It's in the basement, which was finished off in 2005. And the house is only 20 years old.

Have not had that happen but you said old house so that might be the reason.

Doors should be the same height off the ground. I live in an old house and the hangers do not fit in the bedroom closets, they have to be angled! However the bathroom door is no where near where a rug would be placed! Julie

I buy the bath mats that are like towels only a little thicker, like the ones you get at a hotel. I have them hanging on a towel bar by the shower. You use it to step out of the shower on and then hang it back on the towel bar to dry when you're done.

I have the same problem and need to move my rug way over so it is not centered, driving me nuts or it hangs up on the door. Old house, tiny bathroom here also. Actually have the same problem at the front door. I cannot put a throw rug of any sort down to capture dirt before it enters the house. When you open the door it just pushes the rug out of the way. I have tried all kinds of rugs and even double sided tape. Grrrr...

Doors are standard, but the type of flooring in houses isn't, so a builder isn't going to trim a door that opens and shuts easily when they install it. We took out the thick carpet the previous owners had in the house, so fortunately all our doors have nice clearance for any rugs/mats I have put down.
