Could it be fibroids?
My aunt and sister both take 400 IU of Vitamin E (twice daily) for breast pain due to fibroids. Increased caffeine intake makes them worse.

I think you need to be screened fir breast cancer. No cycle in 12 years then this happens? I know several women who suddenly had post menopausal bleeding and within a few months were diagnosed with cancer of the breast. I think it has something to do with an estrogen surge.

So one side has just got increasingly bigger since May........have you had a regular cycle since then? (I know you said you had your first one in years in March and I'm guessing you have a logical explanation for that???) Because if it was that, after your period it probably would have reverted to normal size wouldn't it? I find it quite odd/scary sounding to be honest and I would definitely be investigating further.

You need to see a specialist....increasing that many sizes IS NOT NORMAL....

I'm just stunned that you watched this happen for 3 months and didn't bother to even call your doctor's office and ask if it was normal. It wouldn't even X my mind to come here and ask people what they thought about a medical condition. I'd dial my doctor, y'know, the person who actually has a medical degree and isn't guessing about what it might be. SMH.

I had my first cycle in 12 years in March. ... I am sure it is just hormone related. Wait, what? Twelve years of no periods? That's a pretty huge symptom in itself (assuming you weren't pregnant or breastfeeding--or menopausal--all that time) and possibly relevant to the breast enlargement. Wasn't it ever investigated by a gynecologist or endocrinologist?

Yes the no periods was because of a medication I was taking. I saw an endocrinologist, I took Prometria to try to force a period to happen (didn't work) and I quit taking the medication in May of last year and got my first cycle in March. It terrified me! My doctor laughed and asked me if I knew what to do? I told her I had no clue how to handle a period it had been so long. But anyway they are back at every 21 days. I am hoping they will stretch out to every 28 days soon as this 2 periods a month is too many!
Crazy isn't it?

Thing is I put on weight so I just thought a bit of an increase was normal. I was trying yet another couple of medications and one of the side effects is weight gain (ugh). It's 7 am and I will be on the phone with my GP when they open in a couple of hours. She will be able to investigate this further.

I understand what you're saying, but weight gain causes both breasts to gain size, not just one. Been there done that. The fact that one breast is larger than the other - DDD, what size is the other? If it's still a D, that is not normal. Your cycle wouldn't cause one breast to increase 3 sizes without the other doing the same thing. Also been there and done that, several times. If it was hormone related, or pms related, it would be both, then they would reduce in size again. Please keep us updated!

Why are you going to a GP for this instead of a gynecologist? Whoever you see, be sure you bring up the subject of inflammatory breast cancer and say you want to make sure they rule that out completely.
I don't want to scare you, but inflammatory breast cancer is very, very serious. Be sure that whoever you see can at least tell you, with certainty, why it is NOT inflammatory breast cancer.

A gynecologist would take an ovarian cancer diagnosis to get in not just a sore breast. We don't have many OB Gyn's where I am. They do the high risk pregnancies, cancer and that sort of thing. You need to have a referral and testing from the GP first. We have a good system here but there are loopholes, too. If I could call one and make an appointment I would. The soonest my GP can get me in is Wednesday. That the soonest I can get it.

Oh, you're up in Canada and not in the US, right? I forgot about that. Because down here, at least in north Alabama where I live, you can call up and make an appointment with a gynecologist any time you like for anything related to women's sexual/reproductive health issues. Calling about a 2-cup increase in breast size only on one side associated with pain would get you in immediately. Sorry it doesn't work that way up in Canada. Edit: Not to sound like a broken record, but be sure to bring up the concern of inflammatory breast cancer with your GP. That stuff is serious and progresses fast. If it was even a slight possibility, I'd want to make sure my health care provider definitively ruled it out as fast as possible.

I'm in Canada (Ontario, not sure which province the OP is in - there are some provincial differences in healthcare procedures), but if she isn't already being seen by a GYN then yes, she would have to go through the GP sending a referral... Then GP could refer to a GYN, a clinic (ie. colposcopy), an oncologist - whoever they felt was best suited to assessing the patient's problem more in depth... If she was already being seen by a specialist, she could call them and ask for a new appointment directly... I got distracted by the parts of the story that weren't in the couple of first posts - the period after not having one for years, the idea that it could be hormonal when no mention of changes to medicine or the period had been made at that time... It's hard to not freak out when all you're told is one breast, two cup sizes, in three months... Considering the other changes going on in her body, other things such as hormones playing a role sound more plausible... There are many structures inside the breast that can be affected by hormonal changes - I'm hoping that it's a simple problem with a lymph node or duct... But I'm glad the OP is being more assertive and is going to her GP... Urgent Care/ER/walk-in clinics here tend to be for various acute things that get lumped into "you need the hospital" or "you need to follow up with your doctor because whatever it is, isn't going to kill you in the next couple days"... A lot of people take that the second as meaning it's not a problem... It just means that the ER/Urgent Care isn't the correct place to be assessed/treated for the problem... There have been cases where people have been told to follow up with their GP, they brush that off, and they end up in the hospital later with a severe illness... They're really trying to express to people now that "follow up with your doctor" IS the medical advice, that THAT IS your treatment... Off on a tangent, sorry... Glad the OP's going to her doc

Did your GP say anything about the 12 year period hiatus? Or has you already been about that? Because, I can tell you now, that would have freaked me out!

Oh she has followed the 12 year hiatus very carefully. About 9 mos after I weaned off the medication my first period came.
She says there is nothing wrong and I believe her.

Why do I get the feeling that you are baiting us for attention and/or sympathy? You are listing very specific symptoms that just happen to mirror the symptoms of breast cancer and then playing coy. 'Oh, my breast feels like bubble wrap but she says I'm okay and I believe her.'
I'm sorry if this is harsh, but if you are really having these symptoms, you need to stop posting here and seek a second opinion.
This is not something to play around with. Neither are people's emotions.

No SHE told me my breast feels like bubble wrap. I am not baiting anyone. As far as I am concerned the case is closed. We are out of here. I posted a follow up and now I am done. It is not breast cancer and I have nothing to worry about.

Elannah, I am glad the doctor thinks things are okay. If the breast does not go down soon, please go in again.

Elannah Ah, OK, I must have missed something in the period/breast timeline - sorry about that! BTW - you must know by now....you never get to dictate the closure of a thread, it just has to die on it's own!

I know, I just want people to stop worrying. I went to the doctor. She said it was fine, normal, a symptom of PMS which I am not at all used to after all these years and I would be ok. She said the swelling was normal. Please believe me, I was worried, it hurts and she said breasts do that when periods come. Yes I know better than to close a thread on my own. But no one else is interested in this so you have to believe me there is nothing more to discuss. I had reasons to be concerned. Breast pain and swelling aren't normal. PMS is normal. Despite what lots of bloggers hope I am going to live.
