I'm thinking ahead and want to start gathering ideas for my dd's high school scrapbook. What are "not to miss" layouts to include? Anything you wish you got pics of?
So far, based upon her other school album, the ideas I have are:
-First day of school (each school year)
-report cards included
-school pictures (do they still have yearly school pics in high school?)
-any awards will be included.

I did high school books for my sons and one for myself. I put in school work, school pictures, in the senior section I made a copy of the senior ad I put in the year book, and I went to the school like for back to school night and snapped pics of the interior of the school and classrooms. I also put in programs for school plays and things like that.
For my own book I had much less but I included lots of memorabilia, school newspapers, notes I used to pass to friends, etc, but these days I guess they text everything.
The only thing I wished I had pics of was more in class with friends type pics, but those are hard to get. One thing I did do was snap a photo of them coming down the hall when I would come to sign them out early, or coming out of school when I picked them up. I also got pics of the school.

My kids HS albums include lots of sports, clubs, school trips and various other activities. It's harder to get all those cute friend photos (I have boys) and you don't get any classroom photos from parties anymore. I still save all the programs, newspaper clippings, awards, etc. I always make sure to order a class photo every year too.

Lots of great ideas. I have a school albums for myself as well. Even as a young child I must have know I would be a scrapper one day. I kept homework passes (to get out of doing an assignment. Why I didn't cash it in, I'll never know) and little award certificates from my teacher in second grade. Holy cow, how they survived all these years, I'll never understand.

For my own book I had all of the school dance/sports photos friends trade with each other. Prom and Homecoming pictures. Tons of fiend photos and notes. I wish that I had taken more pictures of the campus. I went back after I graduated and took a few shots, but some things had changed.
My high school scrapbook was more like a journal, so that might be difficult to recreate for someone else. You might be able to keep track of the memorabilia (awards, SAT scores, receipts for school books, receipts for sports and class pictures). You could also have a place for daily life. What does your DD typically do on the weekend? What is her daily look? (Uniform, casual, all done up).
Sounds like a fun project!

One of the things that made my books fun to work on is all the notebook lined paper that you can buy that is not part of a school line. Many lines of paper use notebook lines with other images on them - flowers, owls, all kinds of stuff. I had a blast collecting those papers for the pages.

I forgot to list events like Homecoming and Prom. I also always made my kids pose for a 1st and last day of school photo. You'll be surprised at the stuff you do get photos of during the HS years.

When she hits grade 12 if I'd include (if they even do this at her school..mind did) the class song and class flower. I'd snap a pic of her class ring if she gets one. Maybe get her to write a letter to herself each start of each year saying her hopes for that school year.

Lots of great suggestions here. Because the high school years are about so much more than just what happens in school, I would include pics from any jobs she may have had, senior trip photos (if she went on one) and any other extracurricular activities such as dance, karate/martial arts, piano/music/singing lessons or recitals, competitive non-school sports, church groups or camp, those kinds of things.
