I am trying to figure out the best way to paint them to look like old tin tiles. You can only use water base paint on styrofoam, and any metallic paint I've found that comes in larger sizes (ie: the kind I can get a quart or more of made up) are oil based. I found small jars of metallic water based paints at the craft stores, but it'll take so many bottles of that to do an entire ceiling! These are what I'm talking about:

I assume these attach to a drywall ceiling, not inserted in a grid? I'm sorry I'm not helping, the small Folk Art or Americana acrylics are al I can think of...
What about spray paints? Aren't there some acrylic ones?

I read on Dow.com that acrylic paint works on styrofoam , and to use spray paint.
Dick Blick has acrylic sprays, including metallics.
Out of time, but I would guess other big box stores do too.

These tiles glue on to the ceiling. I've only found oil based metallics in sprays so far. Currently I am planning on using a grey latex base coat (as close to "silver" as I can) and then sponging on two different shades of silver metallic Folk Art acrylics to give it shimmer and dimension. Still playing around with that method to see if I like it, so I welcome any other suggestions.
