DH and I need to get away for a couple of days. Our B&B budget has been eaten by yet another urgent medical bill, so a friend suggested camping. We have a great tent and a new raised air bed to keep us off the ground. We found a state park with facilities open through the end of the month and has electric sites. I figure an electric blanket with our sleeping bags will do the job of staying warm.
Any tips?

We're heading to Table Rock Lake and the weather should be great. I need to test our lanterns since it gets dark so early.

I'm jealous, I totally would go! But I love tent camping. I think we're a rarity around here (meaning, the peas)

I am going camping this weekend..but in socal, it will be hot. a raised air bed is not necessarily good for warmth... can be a suck for your heat from the body.

People snow camp, so this weekend should be fine. An electric blanket in your tent should make it nice and toasty.

Not sure the weather where you live, but my friends went camping at the beach last weekend. Everyone was wearing warm clothes in the pics.

Dress in layers so you can easily adjust to the conditions and your activity level.
Have fun!

I've tent camped in cold weather and here's my suggestion. Heat rises, so rather than put an electric blanket on top of you put it under you. This provides a layer of warmth between your body and the cold air in the mattress. Then pile on the blankets and quilts over yourself.
Also, wear a hat to bed. It will keep you from losing heat. Even better would be one of the ski mask type hats that covers your face, as my nose always got so cold that I'd end up putting my head under the covers.

Well I think you're nuts! But I hate camping and think everyone who does it is nuts! As long as it's not going to snow or rain where you are I think it's fine to go camping this weekend.

I'd probably sleep like a rock as long as my body was warm. I love sleeping in a cold room. I say go for it, have an adventure! When my husband was in scouts, he always loves to tell the story of them going on a camping trip with snow blowing in the tent. His buddy had a terrible sleeping bag and was freezing his ass off so they ended up sharing.

I remember not being able to go with when my son and husband went for Cub Scouts, and I was sad I missed out so DS and I camped out in the yard the next weekend. It was freezing but it was so fun to read stories by lantern and cuddle up in a big warm sleeping bag (he was 7 I think, and didn't mind sharing). Such a sweet memory

I am LOL'ing at some replies. I really need to get out of the house. We'd take our girls, but they are teens who whine. Temps this weekend are in the mid 60's with a low of 40. During the day this week my office has been so warm we run the A/C. It should be fine with blankets and fleece jackets.

Lol if you were in San Diego maybe, it was 100 degrees today, way too hot for me to camp. I like camping when it's cold though, it's fun to have a fire and I sleep well when I'm bundled up and it's cold.

We had a pop-up camper, which is quite different from tent camping. That said, I live in TX and we often went camping this time of year because it's too hot in the summer. (We didn't have air conditioning.)
Camping this time of year is wonderful. It warms up during the day and cools off nicely at night. It's great for sitting around a campfire after dark and toasting marshmallows.
We had less problems with mosquitos camping in the fall as well. We often went camping the week of Thanksgiving.
Just check the weather for the dates you plan to camp. If you get out there and you decide it's too cold or the weather becomes unpleasant you can always return home.
One year we went camping and it rained. We had a DVD player so we went to Wal-Mart and bought a movie and some snacks. We watched the movie and munched on snacks and had a cozy evening.
You could also take some games to play in the evening after the sun goes down. Have fun!
