I was thinking about 2016 and my experiences are now a part of history. It really is amazing when you think about it. Generations will be reading about the events of this year. You lived it! Whether or not you are happy with it, who you voted for and the outcome is a part of history.
This year, I was traveling in Europe during the Brexit vote. Honestly, it felt a little bit like history repeating itself last night. My grandfather was a little boy living in Chicago the last time the Cubs one. A business man and a woman ran for our highest office. As is with any part of history, there were people who were thrilled, just OK, or upset with what was going on.
Most of us found NSBR through documenting our lives through photography, scrapbooking, or crafts. I haven't really been scrapbooking in ages, but I was thinking how important the details of our lives are right now for future generations to read. Watching the media last night was truly fascinating to me! The good, the bad, and the ugly from this election is also your story...and a part of history.
I know we all remember where we were during historical events - just like our parents and grandparents do - and tell those younger than us what it was like.
It's also a wonder any of us have nails left!

That may be true, but I'm hoping that in 2 and 4 years from now when we get to vote again, we are making the right kind of history. This? This isn't the kind of history I would want to talk about in my golden years. My dad fought in Vietnam. It was very much seen as a terrible thing by the American people. When those vets returned home, it was blasphemy to talk about their experience there because they were shamed for it, even though they were just following orders. I don't want the takeaway from this election to be that it was the beginning of the end or that it was the beginning of a dark turn that lasts for decades or centuries...I want the takeaway from this to be that Americans took a stand and refused to accept that this was the legacy our generation wanted to leave and that we took a detour from the progress of the last 20 years, realized the mistake and got right back on track.

Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now?? (Sorry. I can't stop. It's an illness.)
