That's my Portland...so proud, NOT! I don't live in Portland but DH works very close to where Portland protesters keep blocking the freeway. Hopefully they won't ruin his commute home (there isn't another way to get here from there except by freeway) but I'm not optimistic...
I asked a month or so ago if anyone was worried about protests/violence/rioting when the results came in (no matter who won), so I'm not surprised considering the politics of the area and who won.
Oregon is also trying to secede from the US with or without California.

how would we know about it if not for the media??? and for that matter, the media gives coverage to all of the hateful rhetoric, riots, crazies, etc. they do a better job of conflagration than any incendiary ever could...
so yes, I blame the media who only report what they want you to hear and HOW they want you to hear it.
Cindy
ETA: and especially SOCIAL MEDIA, where people have the biggest balls ever when behind the screen and keyboard..... You do know who OWNS the media don't you? If not, look it up. They are a handful of very powerful people.

Don't make it sound like it's a broad-based movement.

That both makes me sad and frustrated. Because it's behavior like this that makes people fearful and suspicious of people trying to peacefully protest as well.

If people want to protest, go for it. But there are always the assholes that have to turn it into a riot. But, what do people hope to accomplish by protesting? Do people actually think that Trump is going to say OK, i give up, never mind, Hillary can be president, because a few professional protesters take to the streets? I don't get it. It's time for people to just come together as one, accept what it is and work together to make this country great again. That's what I intend to do. Cindy. The protesters I saw on Wednesday night (in Detroit, right outside my window at a restaurant) all appeared to be college-age kids. Their chant was "No Trump, no KKK, no fascists....USA" I go back and forth between thinking it's kind of cool that they are protesting a cause they are passionate about, and then feeling like we're raising a generation of children who think they always deserve to get their way and we're not doing them any favors - and they need to understand how elections work in this country. Then I'm depressed because I think that way, which means I must be getting old! hahaha

I find it interesting that prior to the election, all kinds of predictions and assumptions were made about how trump supporters would behave after he lost the election. Riots, violent acts etc where all predicted and talked about constantly. Then the unthinkable happened. Trump won and what happened? The other side is responsible for the protests and now rioting. Not only are they behaving in the same manner they were prematurely accused Trump supporters of behaving, now they are saying it's acceptable and we need to give them space to vent their feelings. The complete reversal on this cracks me up. It's not okay when someone you disagree with does it, but when you do it, everyone should be understanding. Crazy world. that's standard with dems to me. they do it over and over. They don't even blink that is was the same thing they were saying or doing the week or month before... while they carry on about Trumps words, Robert Bird used the N word - in an interview (possibly an on the spot interview). It was just a clip. But that seems to be ok with the left. I have no illusions that those like HC, BC, DBO, Reid, Pelosi etc don't use nasty, foul words IRL. They're very schooled when on camera, but they've also been 'caught' by mics left on.
While many claim to be Christian (HC, DBO etc), their playbook is dedicated to Satan. Trump too claims to be Christian. Yet those on the left continually attack Trump for his lack of Christian behavior. ok for the left, not ok for the right (Trump).
it's interesting if you compare what a lot of 18-20 yr olds are doing in the USA on the campuses / streets vs what a whole lot from the same age group were doing in 1944!

I wonder if congress had increased the minimum wage with costs of living we would be in such a funk.. ''The Economist recently estimated that, given how rich the U.S. is and the pattern among other advanced economies in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, “one would expect America…to pay a minimum wage around $12 an hour.” so workers have been paid less and less and ceos are paid more and more... peaceful protests are protected under the constitution. the few violent ones are arrested.. and held accountable. given how in debt we are.... we should borrow more money to pay workers more? so that whatever product they make / sell will be hiked up by 2.00 to cover it for the bz owner. Which will then cost the 'worker' the 2.00 an hr increase. everything around them will go up in cost. will they have enough '2.00 increase' x hrs worked to cover all the things they normally buy that will then be a higher price? their fast food meal, their hair cut, their babysitter, the car wash, car part, their new shoes, entrance fee to some entertainment (movies) etc.
so is freedom of religion... there are no restrictions regarding where / location. 'government' property isn't banned. gov property is bought with our tax $s. We are the government... of, by and for the people.

Same can be said about the sitting president. Yes he gave a very nice speech the other day. But he needs to address these protestors and rioters personally, now. He has let these riots continue throughout his administration to the point where these people think it is acceptable. I agree. he has encouraged it. those are his activist people. He also had people bused in during his campaigns. He knows those who are behind this.

Oh no. I'm on my phone and can't single out the art I want to address specifically but it is the part about the millennials. Honestly, I feel bad for this generation, they get such a bad rap. The ones I know are hard working, good kids. They ARE filling the ranks of the military. They are in college. They are passionate about their beliefs. They work as hard as most adults. And protesting (not rioting) is a historical method by which the citizens of this country have voiced their opinions. To suggest that this generation protests are because they are a temper tantrum disparages those who used the same method of dissent to voice their opinions...Just think of where would be if the patriots had stayed home instead of the protesting ... Boston Massacre/Tea Party anyone?

I think that protesting is a response that people have when they are having strong feelings and feel like they aren't being heard. I said it on another thread, but people are hurt, scared and angry (I will just point you to the post by monk lady for a good explanation). Some people respond by having feelings of sadness and isolation, others anxiety, and others are more angry and want to be heard. Protesting is personally not my style but I can understand why people are doing it. Unfortunately, I think protests often turn violent because if you feed the anger, it tends to grow rather than die out. When a bunch of people are together, feeling and talking about the same things, it feeds that anger. What I would like to see if more compassion from those who "don't get it." There have been endless negative comments about people needing time and help to heal, saying they are just "having a tantrum" or worse things.People say they want more access to mental health care (although historically that has not been shown with republican leaders and policies, so maybe I shouldn't be all that surprised that republican voters don't feel the same?). But when it comes down to it, it appears to be lip service. Or maybe it is just something they say when they want to take the focus off of gun rights after a tragedy occurs. It's interesting to see you asking for more compassion now, after you participated in calling people f'ing morons for having a different viewpoint than YOU deem the correct ONE viewpoint. LINK

What would you and your teenage daughters have done if you were at the rally in Portland last night as the baseball bats started smashing windows of multiple restaurants and businesses on a street that was one of your favorite places to go to shop, eat etc.? How about when those around you spray paint vulgarity on buildings directed toward Trump?
Maybe the so-called anarchists are behind the violence, but these protests provide a venue for them, and unfortunately those carrying a "Love Trumps Hate" sign are walking the streets in apparent "solidarity" with the law-breakers.

Why do you say they are professional protesters?

protesting ISN'T going to change who won the election. maybe they should look at their person / HC and figure out why. They should look around our country and ask themselves why DBO says things are better, the economy is growing etc, when it isn't. This admin has fudged on the stats for 8 yrs. and the left believes him or at least pretends to. If you listen to the media of the left, you will believe those lies.
