We were in south Texas a few weeks ago and driving around I saw a garden with framed mirrors. There wasn't a fence and the mirrors were propped up, in a line, facing and parallel to the sidewalk. They were decent size rectangular mirrors in frames, didn't match, varying sizes. The biggest was maybe 2'x 3 feet. The line was 10-14 feet long. I wanted to take pic but we were in the middle of a construction detour and traffic was heavy for a residential street.
Isn't there an old pea thread about this? What are they? They weren't hanging like something to scare birds.

Lately in my Pinterest garden board I've seen lots of mirrors used as a design feature--like you would use in an interior--to make the space look larger and in a garden to give the illusion of lusher foliage. I think English gardener have been doing this for years.

I know what you mean about English landscapes, but these were in a row, separated by 8 inches or so? Ibthink of the English ones as tucked into an area, more like a focal point, or secret garden between vines.
These werev surrounded by low plants. We were south where there's lots of foliage, but around the mirrors it was sparse.
Maybe they hoped to train vines around them?

So the mirrors were facing outward toward the street and not incorporated into the garden? Honestly that almost sounds like part of a delusional system of a psych patient--like the mirrors are being used to deflect thought waves or something. I worked with delusional psych patients who liked to incorporate shiny things like foil and mirrors for this purpose. Or...maybe they just didn't like Home Depot's fence selection.

You might be onto something Peano. Not certain but by memory they ran parallel to the street and sidewalk, about 15 feet from curb. The yard sloped up from street too, so thinking along with you, they might have been eye level with someone on the sidewalk.
I wish if taken a photo!

All I am thinking about is how awful they would be to clean every day.

Msladibug, good link. The more I think about it this seems right. We were diverted from a main road through a residential neighborhood due to construction detour. Like I said before plants were low around them, so maybe they were new. The owner might be trying to block negative energy from extra traffic?
I thought about cleaning, and all the poor bird injuries! I have the perfect place to install one as a decoration in my yard, but am afraid the birds will think it's a hole in the fence.
Thanks Refugees!
