I am going on a 2 day little trip with my best friend. (Side note, I'm 34 and this will be the first time I've been away from my husband and kids!! My husband is always doing things with his friends and I seriously never do anything, so I'm really excited!)
It will only be about 5 hours driving each way. We don't really need snacks, but I thought it would be fun. I've been on lots of road trips with kids, so I've bought lots of snacks for those trips, but this time I can get what *I* want to eat! So, what are your favorite snacks?

We road trip a lot... anytime we go anywhere we have a smaller cooler with some water n soda.. mainly for the hotel... like think lunch box size.. not an actual camping cooler... snacks I take peanut m&ms... can of pringles.. twizzlers.. cheese crackers... not all of it is for the road.. i also drop in a microwave bag of popcorn for the hotel..

I second Pringles and love that hey're in a can. I'd add beef jerky, skittles, Boston Baked Beans candy and Burnt Peanuts candy.

I always buy Funyuns. That's the only time I think I have ever bought them is on the road. And BBQ potato chips.

Yeah, for a roadtrip! I know this is lame, but my favorite things to snack on when on the road are sliced apples, Cuties and baby carrots. Tortilla chips with the little guacamole packs you can get a Costco are also great. I second the suggestion of bringing along a cooler for both the car and hotel. I'm sure I've shared this story before, but when DH (before he was DH) & I took our first long road trip we stopped for gas and as he went into pay asked if I wanted anything. "Bring me a treat" I said, wondering if he would come back with chocolate or chips. He came back with pepperoni sticks. We learned a lot about each other on the remaining 7 hour drive with no other places to stop along the way. ETA make sure to pack wet wipes & paper towels, too. SaveSaveSaveSave

I love a container of sour jelly bellys, salted nuts, pretzels and M&Ms. Sweet, salty, sour and crunchy!

I just took a road trip by myself two weeks ago with our smallest pup. I always take: *Almonds *Grapes *Protein bars Those are my fave. The first two are what I eat most because it's easy to put the Baggie in a cup holder and reach my hand in to get one as I drive.

When DH and I road trip we each get a bag of trail mix. The only downside is that if it's warm it might melt. So, I added Chex mix for the last trip as backup.

I ALWAYS buy a few boxes of Arnott's Shapes for a road trip. My favorite was the Cheddar Shapes until they changed the recipe recently. Now I buy Cheds instead. For the kids I buy the Cheese & Bacon Shapes or Chicken Crimpy or Pizza Shapes or.........! The list goes on.
Then I like to buy chocolate as well. Whatever takes my fancy at the time.

Gobstoppers and Mike N Ike's are our traditional road trip foods.

Something sugary (red licorice or gourmet jelly beans) something chocolate (m&m's are a good choice because they don't get as melty) something salty (Pringles, pretzels, dry roasted nuts) something cheesy (cheese flavored Chex Mix, white cheddar Cheetos or popcorn, Cheez-it crackers). And bottled water to wash it all down! (Don't forget the wet wipes to get all the salty, sticky, cheesy stuff off of your fingers!) Have fun on your getaway!

We always take way too much junk food on our trips (and we live out of town, so we make about 10-15 five to eight hour (each direction) trips a year. I find them miserable, so the junk food makes them bearable! Our car looks like an episode of hoarders with all the stuff we pack (and take to eat).
One trip a few years ago we traveled 5 hrs. to a family graduation. My brother and his family traveled 10 hours. We had so much junk food. When we met up with my brother and his family at the hotel, they talked about how they ate a whole bag of apples, carrots and bananas on their drive. Well, my teenage niece and nephew wanted to ride in our car with our kids to the restaurant for dinner. My girls were throwing all the junk food wrappers into the trunk, hiding the bags of food, so their cousins wouldn't be appalled by all the the food we can put away in just a 5 hr. car ride!

Have a blast! I read every response, annnd they all made me wanna snack! You could also add individually-wrapped cheese sticks, and Fritos bean dip with Scoops---YUM! lisacharlotte.....Thank you for making me LOL !!! That is HILARIOUSLY humongus, and I've gotta buy them for two of my Goldfish-addicted friends for Christmas !!! maryland....LOL at your story! Our families used to have that kind of thing going on, too. One family ate SO healthfully, so we were embarrassed about our chemical-laden Snack cakes, tons of sugar, chips, etc Quick! Hide the "Little Debbie" wrappers from them!

I don't know why but when I take a road trip, I just have to get some of those pink and white frosted animal crackers.

My favourite Canadian road trip snack is a big bag of Hickory Sticks. When DH and traveled to Yellowstone this summer we munched on Pepper Jack Cheez-Its and miniature peanut butter Snickers. 😋 No healthy snacks for us!

We love to pack a big tupperware container of chilled grapes. When you eat them, you get a bit of crunch, a bit of sweetness, and a bit of juice all in one. They don't make you thirsty, and they actually make you feel a little hydrated. (Which is good if you're trying to avoid half a million potty breaks. )

When we'd travel in the car when the kids were little I always took healthy things -- fruit, cheese, etc. -- and of course Goldfish crackers. But, when I'm by myself I always have a bag of salty rippled potato chips (Utz brand is my favorite) and a Diet Coke. lol. I rarely eat chips or drink Coke otherwise, although I do like them. I just don't bring chips into the house much because I have no will power. But for car trips that's what I eat. lol I also always bring cheese and a banana, and I try to eat both so that the healthy vitamins cancel out the chips and Coke.

scrappintoee We had our road trip planned for 8 months. Only thing on my list was that big ass carton o' goldfish (rainbow colors please). We were gone a week and barely put a dent in it even after 2659 miles. DS finally finished it off when we got home.
